GPSJane 0 #1 October 17, 2006 Does anyone know if there is a tunnel or plans for a tunnel in Dubai? It may be a weird question but I figure that since they have everything bigger and better there that surely they must build a big-ass tunnel. It would be cool for South Africans because you almost always fly through Dubai on the way to other places for tunnel trips so it would be easier and cheaper to just got there Only skydivers know why the birds sing; they don't have to pack a parachute! tunnelfly 0 #2 October 17, 2006 There's no tunnel in Dubai. I also haven't heard of any plans for a commercial tunnel. There is one under construction in Abu Dhabi (SV), but it's military... Last I heard is that it should be commissioned by the end of this year. But it's been "under construction" for many years now, so I'd be very surprised if it will be running next year... (not SV's fault, of what I know). But I'll be in the Emirates next week and plan to do some jumps while I'm there. If I hear some news I'll post them... Edited to add: BTW, what's the status of the "Wind-Tech" tunnel in south africa? Is it still running, and how is it? No.1 reason NOT to be an astronaut: ...You can't drink beer at zero gravity... GPSJane 0 #3 October 19, 2006 After I posted this I thought I read something about there going to be one in the new theme park they are planning. It's kind of like a Disney World but bigger (of course) but now I can't find the reference again. The Wind Tech tunnel was sold to a company in Holland 6 months ago - hence the reason I am looking for cheap tunnel options :)Only skydivers know why the birds sing; they don't have to pack a parachute! With the awe inspiring rate they're procuring/constructing anything and everything there, it's only a matter of time before they have the worlds biggest badass DZ and tunnel complex. Imanewdiver 0 #5 March 22, 2010 Dubais new Mall just opened this week with TWO huge tunnels unlike any I have seen before.
