what about the Vegas tunnel any good?

Love the Vegas tunnel but do not expect the SkyVenture experience. It's something different and better in many ways. The staff is top notch, the facility is on the strip next to all kinds of fun stuff, and my flight time has ALWAYS been SUPER DUPER WONDERFUL.

You'll wear a larger suit but flying tunnels is so much fun, if you have the time and money do it! Learning to fly new environments is great, you really have nothign to loose despite what others may think or say on here. You'll only become a better flyer in the sky and elsewhere for having flown in different air types, speeds, and tunnels.

YOU CAN'T GO WRONG AT FLYAWAY LAS VEGAS :)

If your looking for "skydiving" training from a tunnel this is my personal rating of US tunnels I have been to.

1. Ft. Bragg (being in the Army helps here;))
2. Eloy (SV)
3. AAC
4. Orlando (SV)
5. PF

PF was so slow that using the Balloon suit was a step backwards for "skydiving". To me, not very realistic and not enjoyable. To me, not worth it to a "Skydiver".

The first 3 have the "fastest" air, but AAC being open you have to keep an eye as to your position in the air column, tough to do in your ealier Tunnel/Skydiving career.

The Sky Venture tunnels have coaches who are skydiver oriented right at hand. AAC has a good set but I think they are more "Tunnel Rat" (term of endearment!) oriented, but in that bunch they are the best!

Just my opinion.

I heard Orlando had a major upgrade of the windtunnel motors recently -- so it might be more similiar to the other newer SV tunnels. Was your experience before or after the upgrade?

I don't have the windtunnel experience you do. Someone else will shed more light about this, but this bears worth mentioning.

Yup they upgraded in 2004. I never got to fly at SVO until after the upgrade so I don't have much to offer :(

I can speak for its current state however:
136+ mph for experienced freefliers, you don't have to be an amazing bodypilot to get these airspeeds but you do need to be proficient w. a good bail/recovery position.

I was lucky to get some extra air speed for free and man was that fun, not sure what it was but it was over 136. My bodypositions were a ton more responsive and it was quite the experience. Not sure I'd want much more than that w. or w/o walls but man it was fun. Can't wait to get out to AZ and see what that monster is like! :)

I haven't been to Orlando since Jan 2003 (2 hours then).
I would like to add Perris in the tied for 3rd slot. I can't beleive I forgot them:S.

I think AAC could be one of the best in the world with verticle references (walls) for Skydivers. But Tunnels need to bring in tourists since us skydivers will be using it as a training device, tourists and tunnel flyers will actual turn the tunnels profit.

Again it is all just my opinion.

Happy New Year all!

I think AAC & Perris are very much comparable myself... I feel that SVO would be JUST under them even after the new motors.. not that I ever need anything near to top speeds though!!! The old motors seemed just fine to me but I realize the change was for MORE than just a speed increase.

Some of the military groups that visited AAC have asked for a 'freefly tube' type thing to be added in the corners, which would indicate height levels in even a color coded paint job.. I think something like that could be done without ruining the flight area.. I'd just DIE if he put walls around the whole thing!

That would ruin the georgious view and mountains that the tunnel sits in and on. No walls, please no walls Chris! I need a tunnel to travel to that doesn't have plexi glass. The tube is cool but the mountains are cooler :)

I was one of those "military types":P.

The idea Ben and I talked about was some thing that could be placed on the outlet ratcheted down for a while then, pop it off when not needed.

Picture the Eloy tube with its rounded entry/exits and a net on top (would hate to pop out the top and ding yourslef on the top of the tubes lip on the way downB|.

That would allow the skydivers the training enviromnent they like and still have the Beautiful view!

(That was pretty cool! But I was not going to go 60+' high like BK to see with out at least a base rig or an air bag:P!)

The tube being removable would also allow the unmolested out door freefly enviromnent you Tunnel Rats love (term of endearment!).

Tunnels are fun. But I use them for a training aide and all my opinions and ideas are based on that.

Happy New Year All!

I wasn't going to name names...
I wouldn't mind if they enclosed the bottom... that wouldn't interfere because we could still fly ontop... :D you only need a few vertical feet for that 4 way stuff right? course there's no view down on the bottom section but once you add walls it won't matter much anyway..:)
and yes one guy did go PRETTY high... WHEW! it'll take you away if your not careful!!

tunnelrat is a wonderful term of endearment!:P THANKX!
