Bodyflight.Net 0 #5 December 1, 2005 that is Very Very cool! Yes, thanks for sharing! I love seeing birds in the tunnel, for instance yesterday I rewatched my favorite Discovery special with wind tunnels and birds in flight.. it was great. At AAC in North Carolina buzzards and vultures are often catching lift off of the top of the air column there and it's super cool to fly in the sky with birds around you. Perhaps with time they will be able to rehab the bird well enough to fly with people. After watching a hawk skydiving with his owner, I know a bird can handle a high speed dive at our type of flight speeds!!! Again, AWESOME! edited to add similar article clicky: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2005/12/01/ngoll01.xml&sSheet=/news/2005/12/01/ixhome.html

Zenister 0 #7 December 2, 2005 QuoteI'll get flamed for this but....... what a dumb thing to do. why? because it robbed a human of 'air time' ? it is a training tool.. why not use it to train birds as well? hell who cares what anyone does in it really (that doesnt damage the tunnel) once they pay for the time??____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed. I am glad the airspeed was low because I was in the perris tunnel the day a owl got chopped to pieces... But I was happy to see the story today on the national news (today show to be exact). Seems the bird really got to do some good belly work, but it's head down still sucks...

Eule 0 #11 December 5, 2005 I thought it was kind of cool, myself. But that's me. QuoteThe risk of damage, the potential for injury to the animal, and the precident it sets. For "damage", you mean to the tunnel hardware, correct? Precedent - of rehabbing animals in the tunnel? Or of bringing animals into the tunnel at all? I'm not asking so I can flame you; I am just curious to hear your thoughts. PM if you want. Eule.PLF does not stand for Please Land on Face.
skytash 0 #12 December 5, 2005 I think there is a difference between intentionally bringing a bird into a tunnel, when everyone knows it's there, the operators are adjusting the wind speed accordingly etc than when an owl is asleep in a tunnel and is woken up by 120mph winds and fast rotating blades during the morning's test run of the motors. tashDon't ever save anything for a special occasion. Shotgun 1 #13 March 20, 2006 Bump... I saw a show about this vulture the other day, and it was pretty cool! It looked like the wind tunnel really helped the vulture's flying progress...
