Flyable Costume Ideas

Recommended Posts

I need costume ideas...who better to ask than those who fly!!:)
Need a new costume and have only a week to put it together, and I don't think I'm alone either:P on this one.. maybe others will benefit too! So on the list of possibles are the following...

a freefly clown
air police
witch
ghost

I'd like it based around flying obviously!! I can wear just about anything but the base of the outfit needs to be somewhat warm or at least sweatpants & a sweatshirt.. I can have any props I want and I need to be able to create it all at home....any other ideas??? or ideas on how I can build these costumes fairly easily???

Added: the event I'm talking about is NEXT Saturday at the open air wind tunnel (no walls), no roof, no floor, nuthing but a big net outside.. if that helps you imagine the setting:)

Spooky Sparkling Sequins (sp?!?!) or patches maybe.

I think it would be hilarious to see 2 people docking on the BIG red shoes of a FreeFly Clown :D:D:D

:ph34r:You are asking the wrong person. When it comes to being creative, don't count on me.

But I like Page's idea.

I kind of pictured you having white sweats on, then some kind of white material, one that would "flow" easy. Maybe just make a simple jacket to wear over the sweats? Add the shiny stuff.

Sorry, that's the best I can do[:/]

Or a devil? (I'm assuming you're trying for a halloween theme...)

Lots of red which would be nice and visible at night and you could attach some horns to a helmet! :)

I love that idea:)

Obviously, I wanted to attend as a burning matchstick... but then I read the "No Fire, Sparks or Flames" on the bottom of the ad, so i won't come (I'm still too busy in Korea, anyway).

If your Batgirl costume is too tight, what about the Michelin Man?

:D:D:DI laughed so silly when I saw that suggestion!! We thought of something like that.. the Stay Puft Marshmellow Man from the movie Ghostbusters!! Hilarious!

But I fear the michilin man would have the same problems as Batgirl... limited mobility! Too tight was as in 'not enough flexibility available' not as in 'not enough drag':P

And you should know that the fire/sparks rule came about JUST FOR YOU! ;) The big ol' nylon net just doesn't seem the right place for a 'burning matchstick' :)
How is Korea btw... I know your working, but anything else 'runnin' over there yet????????[drooling]

If you refering to the thingy in the first attachement, I have to disappoint you. The tunnel is currently located at a holiday resort in Kyongju. Although it was operational during the summer, they suspended it and packed it up about 3 weeks ago, because of the lack of customers during the cold season.
I was there one week ago to build in and test a new clutch, but we opened it only as much as needed to run the prop, not enough to actually fly.:(

Back to the costume topic:
I would also choose the ghost costume. It's the easiest to make, especially since you have less then a week left.
Hope, the BOOgie will be a success, and I expect pics on your site soon after...;)

Awesome to know about Kyongju!!!

Ghost huh? Maybe I could velcro a sheet to my legs and back (sweatpants) and leave it short around the arms... it should flatten out when I sit fly/back fly or belly fly..... but no standup or I'll look like a big blowup balloon!!:D:D:D

Yes.. PHOTOS... my NEW camera broke (lens) in Orlando last week, I'll have to buy a replacement ASAP! And thanks for the well wishes on the BOOgie, it'll be alot of fun I'm sure!!! Too bad you aren't coming Andy... as Bodyflight.Net Tunnelrats are paying only $7 per minute!!!:)

Hiya RatBoy.. it'll be good to meet ya! I hear your group is coming dressed as a 4-way team;):P just kiddin'... it'll be great to meet you all!

I've settled on the Clown idea.. it's just TOO easy to do!
I've got a bright orange sweatshirt, which I will wear over my suit which is purple & green (see avatar) with a big polka dot belt I think..
Got the wig.. gonna use these funky tubular framed goggles (I got during TFTC), red tennis shoes, a little face paint around the mouth... multicolor wig over or under the helmet, not sure which yet!
White gloves... a noisemaker, whistle, silly string, water pistol and a smily face bubble necklace!!!

I should make a good clown, I'm mostly silly anyway :$

Thanks for all the good ideas...

It's a one piece suit, like they make for little kids that have the padded feet and hands. We got the pattern for it at a fabric store as well as all the material.

The pattern initially called for a hoodie separate of the rest of the costume, but my girlfriend helped me make it one piece. The tail was detachable for reduced-horseshoe issues.

It definately took us a couple of fittings to get the whole thing nice and snug and get the booties to fit as well, but it now fits as good (maybe a little better than) my RW suit. We tapered the front of the hoodie down a bit and made it snug so it would stay in place in freefall.

The really suprising thing about this suit was how much it slowed my fallrate, even though it fits the same as my other RW suit. The girl I jump with is normally pretty floaty on me, and with this suit, I was really working to stay down with her, so that was an interesting effect of the furry material.

PM me if you need any more details.
