Mary was giving out Go Fast tonight as JP was coaching me on silly stuff, like back flying.

I had to do some thing to distract the people that were watching you;)

Kelli, I have Internet at work now, but since I'm working so hard, I don't have time to PW:P

I finally got to fly in the tunnel earlier today for ten minutes with Kirk. I've only flown in the Vegas and Orlando tunnels, but I like this one the best of the three.

Pros:

1. Powerful! They can really crank this one up. I didn't have a weight belt today, and I was arching hard!

2. Quiet - I flew without earplugs, and I think it was as quiet as flying in Orlando with earplugs.

3. Smooth - I got to some different spots near the door, and I didn't feel any dead areas. I wasn't trying that hard, though :P

4. Just want to say this one more time - the facility is really nice! The building is nice and the inside has a great layout. Great job, to whoever the architect was.

Cons:

1. I don't know if it was designed this way (for safety?) or not, but air pressure seems to decrease slightly at height. I found it a little harder to stay at height in this tunnel than in Orlando, and I'm pretty light to begin with. I don't think it was the controller, because I could hear the fan speed change when he increased or decreased, and I felt the pressure gradient before I heard any change of fans. It's not a big deal to me, because I don't spend a lot of time up high, and it's probably safer for the whuffos if it's true. I'd like to hear anyone else's thoughts - am I imagining it? It's a small decrease that I felt, and I only got 10 minutes to play, so it could very well be my imagination.

2. Seems like there needs to be a finer tuning mechanism for the controller fans. I felt like there were only two speeds - high and low - even though I know I was only getting a small fraction of what the fans could give. It's probably harder to fine tune because of the huge power range. I'm sure they'll find ways to tweak speed a bit better - it's still pretty new.

Overall, a great tunnel. As hooknswoop always says, "Hot Tip": book time in a group, because the more time you buy, the less it costs. I went solo today, and my 10 minutes of off-peak ran $16.50/minute. If you can get enough people for an hour, the cost goes down to about $11/minute.

Yeah sorry about that - this was a last-minute thing because I wanted a chance to fly with Kirk while he was here. Looks like off-peak starts at 1:30 PM, and it's a little cheaper.

I think any good PR/Marketing guy will promote the tunnel over the visiting staff - as they don't want to give the impression that the "good guys" are leaving... The PR guys are hired to do PR for the tunnel, which will stay as the staff comes and goes... The purpose of that story was to sell the concept that anyone can fly - not that you need to be a world champion... So the spin worked...:D

But, they put up more footage online!

Thanks to everyone at SVCO for a bunch of kickass tunnel time today!!!

"Fly 'till it hurts" should be their motto! B|:D:D

Matt... Jim and I are starting a twice per month freefly night... We are booking ahead, making it official training like... Like 30 minutes per person per visit... You want in our rotations? Anyone else interested? Jim and I are novices right now, but the goal is to improve enough to fly with others...:P You saw us last time, we are just bad enough to make it funny...

Just a warning on the 30 mins if you are novices. I decided to spend the same money on tunnel time in the winter that I spend on jumping in the summer now that airkix & bodyflight are open here in the UK.

I booked 15 mins per week every week initially, which I've now reduced to 12 mins. The main reason for that is that I was unable to move my arms after 12 mins and was then wasting the other three minutes 'cos I didn't have the strength to get into a sit, let alone stay in it.

You guys may be v fit and not struggle with upper body strength - I did though and even now there is no way I could do 30 mins myself unless it was spread over a long time.

Thanks, tash...

You are right... Two weeks ago we purchased an hour - and flew 30 each... We got tired... I was more mentally tired than physically... So this time we are still buying an hour, but splitting it up over two sessions - so we have some down, reset, and debrief time...

Just like on my belly (see the other thread where I posted about a 15 minute continuous flight) - I am hoping with skills comes endurance too, as I won't be working so hard to just do basic things... But, we shall see - the good news being that I have so much to work on, that when one muscle group kills me, I can move onto a different skill that does not require that muscle. he he he

I will let you know how it goes after the first session with our new time schedule...

thanx for the freefly offer Travis but I'll be spending my money on more important things, like doing four way with Kirk Verner Thomas Hughes and Andy H. tomorrow:P. I'll bring you the video and show you how slow I was;)
