Wind Tunnel in Colorado

Recommended Posts

I didn't see any pitot tubes. Maybe you are seeing somthing I don't know about in the pic. If you are referringto the blue, that is painter's tape.

edit: Now that I look closely, I see what you are referring to. They are the small tubes just below the net. I was looking for the size of pitot tubes you find on aircraft. I didn't even know what I was taking a picture of :$

I've already been in contact with the managers for the CO tunnel (Mary and Norm). Concerning a private tunnel camp.

Although we went with a known coach in Orlando this time (one who knows our team very well) I'd like to note the following:

1 - This was a great experience, even before they are opening all my questions were answered and it was a pleasure to talk/correspond with them.

2 - They did go out of the way to try and work a deal with us for the bulk time and work to schedule based on our camper tunnel loading needs. They don't have to do that.

3 - Once they get fully staffed up and the full pro-coaching resources lined up (VERY SOON) they will be a top notch training tunnel.

The only reason we didn't try out the new (and recirculating design) tunnel this time was our need to get travel plans in place wouldn't time out with our ability to pull together the exact style camp we were trying to set up. I'm sure with another month or so it would have happened (and been tied to nice ski vacation also>....)

I think this will be an extremely well run business and very customer focused.

{{Thanks Mary}}

Alright, Mar, how much did you pay him for this? ;)

[Hijack] Meanwhile, back on the East Coast, 2 VM's and a Foxy FU call later and no returned phone calls. Sigh.

[/Hijack]

Mary is above bribery. I'm not above taking them, though. You can see the conflict. Tell me the Foxes are repeating next year. I had very little trash talking last year with your Minxxxy because you guys weren't as active as previously.

Yes, Mar is on top of all sorts of things. ;)

We are still in .. erm ... negotiations.

To quote a friend (from this VERY thread) stay tuned for the actual answer. One way or the other, there are some Foxes that would love to fly the CO tunnel!! We need to compare it's level of Foxiness with the others. B|

OH MY! You two are so sweet. Norm told me about this:$

Pam, you would not be loving me returning your call at the hours I have time to do that. That new boss of mine is a slave driver and never gives me any rest;)

Pam, I'll call you tomorrow between flights. I promise.

As for the level of Foxiness at the Colorado tunnel, maybe I can get Norm to paint it purple! Would that bring you out here? Or is it my sweet personality that would bring the team out?

I know he's reading this right now, and yes, I really am at work:ph34r:

We still might come out for an hour or so over our daughter's spring break just for fun (Airline tickets from here can be as low as $99 when booked within a month - It's almost a sin to NOT come out). I think the recirc will really give clean air. (Also, it's how a midwest tunnel would be structured, nice to see how that works - someday we'll have one in Minneapolis or Chicago or KC or St Louis...)

Silly Rehm, just move out here, my team is looking for a tail:P.

I haven't flown tail since I lived in Phoenix. It's fun though. (if we come out for more than just a long weekend, I'll bring my gear and call you guys though)

I can't handle the altitude - thin air, damaged lungs. Other than that, Colorado is my #1, very favorite, place I'd like to live. Last high altitude jump I did was only 22k (msl) and I had tunnel vision all the way down to 15K (msl)

{{But,,,,,,, climbing around and hiking in that air might just be the final cure to get the lung capacity up}}

Let me know when the area DZs get an Otter. I have a feeling that with this tunnel, the CO teams are going to start ramping up their scores....

Mile Hi has an otter, and with the Otter and the tunnel opening up Colorado is going to RULE THE WORLD!!! Or at least put out some serious teams.

Seroiusly though, right now my team only has Tdog(IC), myself(OC), and possibly Dustin19D(Tail), but theres a chance Dustin may have other work obligations, so if you swing out this way and want to fly take your pic, Point or Tail;)

My Company has a plant that can see Mile Hi from the windows there. I even swung by a couple times last time I was on business there in Longmont. Thought it would be cool to work there and put in the occasional lunchtime skydive. I thought Mile Hi was just a King Air DZ, so the Otter correction is good news. I'll just have to work out some 'business' travel again.

My best friend from College lives in Lafayette.

The tunnel is new and the mountains (skiing/climbing) are close.

Damn straight we'll be out soon.

I guess you guys will rule the world of 4-way. All you need is 50% of a committed 4-way team :P:P

{now that it's built, they will come}

no we don't, it's better this way, have you ever tried to do block 10 with only two people? It rocks!!! and you said you like to spin really fast, imagine a 14 with only two people, you get to spin twice as much;)

seriously though, we are going to try and use that tunnel as bait to get a few more people doing RW around here, who knows maybe we can help control the dirty freeflyer population:P

Dan,

Speaking of tunnels and our team, I got an e-mail last night (and as a broadcast e-mail I hope they don't mind me posting it here):

SkyVenture Colorado's Newsletter - December 2005
Dear member,

I would like to start this newsletter off with a huge THANKS for
your support. The interest in SkyVenture Colorado has been amazing to
say the least. The Forum on Dropzone.com concerning our operation has
seen over 6000 visitors and is the number one discussion on wind
tunnels out of 308. Our web site gets thousand of visits every day
with virtually no advertising. The job site gets fly overs and visits
from future customers every day. Virtually every news agency in Denver
is following our every step. All of this is directly attributable to
the fun, energetic, exciting people in this sport and in Colorado.

We love our state and we love to play.

Crew Update

Seven of our Flight Crew members have been hired. Philippe Tassin as
Assistant Manager and Flight Crew is joined by Mary SantAngelo as
Reception Manager. Working with them are four fantastic flyers with
incredible experience in many varied aspects of flight.

Jason Russell, Brad Cole, Derek Vanboeschoten, and Matt Burge start
their training December 5th in Orlando and then should finish up
around mid January in our own tunnel for the long awaited opening. We
have secured some of the finest tunnel instruction in the world for
our crew with Rusty Lewis and Joe Winters heading up our teams entire
four week class. We have also managed to talk both Rusty and Joe to
stay an extra two weeks to help us out for the inevitably busy start
up.

Construction

The construction site has appeared to hit overdrive. With the
difficult air flow path behind us, we are completing tasks at an
unprecedented pace. The parking lot is graded, both roofs are going
on, the electrical system is moving extremely well, the cable floor
is complete, and the exterior stucco is moving so fast I can't take
pictures fast enough!

OPENING DAY: JANUARY 20th 2005

Now Taking Reservations

We are very pleased to announce that reservations are now being
taken for January 20th and beyond with the potential to move these up
if we open a week early. Look for coaching and tunnel camps to be
announced very soon.

We updated our web site. "Flying in Three Easy Steps?" has been
added in order to help you understand that the sport of Indoor
Skydiving is safe and for everyone. It is Pure Fun for the whole
family.

Check out the Online Forum (http://www.skyventurecolorado.com/forum)
where you can share your tunnel experiences and thoughts.

I'm so disappointed in you all. I'm out of town for a few days, and you all let this thread go without a post[:/]

I'll be home tomorrow, with pictures of the guys from their first week of training. All is going great, and I think anyone that watches these new tunnel rats fly in the tunnel will be impressed. They are only done with their first week, and they are all doing great!

It was a beautiful weekend in Colorado! We were all busy jumping, skiing and doing anything but posting on the internet while you were screwing around in orlando. :D

Sorry Mar, I was enjoying the quiet time at home and have been taking care of the chores that never get done because someone is bored and wants to do something. I won't name names, but he doesn't fit in a crate. :D:P

So when are those blades going to start turning for some test flights. ;)
