slotperfect 7 #1 December 24, 2007 This forum was created in reponse to multiple requests for a Tandem Forum, with AggieDave being the primary advocate. It was decided that broadening the topic of the forum to *all* types of instruction would create more overall value for our online community - and rightly so. In recent months, the clear line defining the purpose of this forum and the clarity of what type of content fits here have both become a bit fuzzy. This post is intended to serve as a reminder of both why this forum was created and the who and the what relating to content of discussions. Quoted from Sangiro's forum welcome thread, May 20, 2004 (bold highlights are mine): QuoteHeya all, Welcome to the new Instructors Forum! Any and everyone is welcome to post here but this forum is specifically targeted at tandem, AFF and other instructors. This is a place where you can exchange ideas and share information and techniques about your specific area of instruction. This is a topical forum and is moderated as such. That means that posts in this forum should in some way or shape specifically relate to "Instruction or Instructors". General training related questions, including those about making tandem and AFF jumps should still be posted to the Safety and Training forum. Though you're welcome to chime in, this forum targets Instructors, not everyone who use their services. If you haven't done so yet, please familiarize yourself again with the Dropzone.com Forum Rules and policies. This will help us run things smoothly and ensure an enjoyable experience for everyone. And finally - I'll dedicate this forum to AggieDave, who have been bugging me for a forum like this since before the parachute was invented! Quoted from my original post as Moderator of this forum (also May 20, 2004): Quote-Specific advice to students currently under instruction should be avoided, deferring to the Instructors at the student's real DZ instead of their virtual one. This topic has been covered in many other posts, and I feel it's important to bring up here. -Note that Sangiro's welcome specifically targets those methods of instruction that don't already have their own forum. A question that fits the more specific forums should be posted there. For example, a question about Birdman instruction should be posted in the Wing Suit Flying Forum. Here we will see posts about Tandem, AFF (and it's many spinoffs), Static Line, IAD, etc. -Back up your opinions. Details like where you learned a technique, your experiences using it, and why you choose that particular technique over others will be of great value to all of us. -When posting a poll, leave an "Other, please explain" option. It allows for many other possibilities you may not have considered. Thanks for taking a minute to read this reminder, and an even bigger thanks to those of you that have provided such valuable input here in this topical forum. Cheers,Arrive Safely John
