Do I need a collapsible for a 150 eliptical?

Recommended Posts

I am about to invest in a used 150 elliptical, and I'm on a tight, tight budget. How imperative is it that I use a collapsible pilot chute with this canopy? Also, what is the minimum size of a canopy before the non-collapsible pilot chute begins to interfere with the performance of the canopy?

If you're on a real tight budget, get the grommet through which the briddle passes through the D bag changed to a larger one (by a rigger). Large enough to slide over the PC, small enough to be stopped by the handle. Presto, collapsable PC. Downside is higher wear on the PC. Do a quick searh in teh gear forum, you may find a thread that describes this in more details.

It's not needed based on size... its needed based on loading. Anything above a 1.25:1 and you will need it.
If you are on too tight of a price budget to spend the $75 for a Pilot Chute, you might want to rethink the elliptical canopy if you can't stay current on it. (10 or more jumps a month) JMHO

Yup, you need one....there is always performance to gain on any type and size of chute.
Cheap mans option besides the larger grommet is a bungee collapsible. Get your rigger to do one, should cost is about 10$, gain same as killine.....but watch those hops 'n pops!!!!
