Krip 2 #1 July 24, 2011 Hi guys and gals This a thread involves two different acft, produced 50+ years apart. To make it more challenging we don't have a photo of either acft, and I'm old and can't spell Acft #1 was used in the final scene of the movie Casablanca 1942. Ingred Berman was geting ready to board the bird at the airport saying goodby to her true love Humphrey Bogart as her huband to be was waiting on the airplan. Can anyone name that airplane???? Acft #2: Fast fwd 60 years a aircraft was low enough to be wither landing or taking off and we see it thru our sunroof. Acft #2 The bird was high tech, the latest and the greatest, At least for us. From my quick view I noticed what I would call the horizontal stablizer at the front of the plane , radical sweprt back wings with a push turbo prop engine attached close to the end of ea wing. Corp Jet? Ladies and gents can you name none, one or both of these airplanes. Hint there is a pic of a plane in a movie poster for casablanca but Ingred Berman is geeking the camera and takeing up most of the poster space, R.I.P.One Jump Wonder

kd5xb 1 #3 July 24, 2011 I believe plane #1 to be a Lockheed Electra. Airplane #2 is possibly a Piaggio P180 or a Beechcraft Starship.I'm a jumper. Even though I don't always have money for jumps, and may not ever own a rig again, I'll always be a jumper.
totter 2 #4 July 24, 2011 Aircraft #2 is a stumper. Could be a Piaggio or a Starship, but their engines are in by the wing roots, not the tips. Aircraft #1 is a Lockheed Model 12 Electra Junior. Thanks Wikipedia

jimmytavino 16 #7 July 25, 2011 Is # 2... the pedal powered Gossamer Albatross???? VERY lightweight. transparent skin. a "capsule" shaped fuselage/cabin wherein a world level bicyclist would sit.. and Pedal... sending power to the props.. i believe it skimmed across the English Channel at one point,, no higher than 100 feet off the water.... but i could be mistaken..... jt
ripcord4 0 #8 July 25, 2011 Aircraft #2 could possibly be a Piaggio P180. The Piaggio P180 Avanti is an Italian twin-engine turboprop aircraft produced by Piaggio Aero. It seats up to nine passengers in a pressurized cabin, and may be flown by one or two pilots.

Corp Jet? ... R.I.P." ..................................................................... Sounds like a Starship, designed by Burt Rutan and built by Beechcraft. Starships were built in small numbers, but now most have been retired. The basic problem was weight. Since the Starship was one of the first all-composite airframes certified by the Federal Aviation Administration, the FAA insisted on such large large structural margins that it ended up as heavy as a King Air and did not perform significantly better than a King Air ... powered by a similar pair of Pratt & Whitney PT6 turboprop engines. After trying to sell Starships - for a decade or so - Beechcraft decided that they no longer wanted to supply spare parts for Starships, bought up most of the Starship fleet and scrapped them. Who is your rigger? I can send the NB 8 to him or her. Its stock military: no deployment sleeve, no D rings for a reserve. You'd better arrange to have an emergency right over Ariel. I don't think a sport jump with only one canopy is legal. If you get a typical jumpship it's always an emergency so no worries. I think a sunset jump would be best. You need to see and be seen. A night jump would be more authentic but let's give you a reasonable chance of having a beer with the gang rather than a date with an orthopedic surgeon or a coroner. When you land and are mobbed by reporters your name is Robert Blevins. 377 Can someone get a Google Earth shot of the area around the Ariel Tavern and post a link? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Malfunction? Cutaway and pull silver...you know... that tab on the top of the beer can. IMO Mr Quade warned about this type of behavor at the beginning of the thread.
