fastphil 0 #26 October 27, 2009 Geez, Louise... ya'll make it sound like Tinks entering a destruction derby or facing a firing squad. I made several hundred jumps on one, all of which were enjoyable with mostly stand up landings where I wanted to land. The "kelvinator" remark is true though. We were God's own drunks and hard hard men with legs of spring steel. These kids today want thousand foot snivels, go back up landings and micro pack jobs. Back in the day...blah blah blah (those were fun times just the same. Remember how we all used to look up and watch each other's jumps start to finish? Not any more.) jon

You packed for yourself, you had to get a load together, you might have to wait for someone, you watched what others did, and you stood around and shot the shit. Now 3 jumps can be knocked out in a couple-three hours. Somehow "knocking out" jumps isn't the same. OTOH, it does mean more jumps, more freefall, etc. Wendy P.There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. (tbrown)

I don’t think so. SparkyMy idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

beets 0 #32 October 29, 2009 Tink, it's Harvey from Maytown. We both know DeWolf can pack anything. Dick G, my brother Tom, myself and B. Martin have hundreds of jumps on PC's or Papillion's. Other than 2 crushed ankles 1 time for Tom, we never had a problem:) Bring it out, one of us will 'sit in' for tension, and others will flake it, clear the stabilizers and sleeve it for you:) Besides, there's so many open farmers fields that spotting is nothing to worry about except manure on the fields this time of year. Lookin forward to seeing it.

Lookin forward to seeing it. Hey Harv, I have to second that! With Maytown so close by I really can't understand why Kevin would go to the internet for advice. DeWolf can easily answer all three questions (and I am sure you could too!) I made about 60 jumps on PC's myself but I have no desire to go back. I was a teenager and forty pounds lighter in those days. Say Hi to the gang! ScottOnward and Upward!

JerryBaumchen Hey Jerry, The reason I came back and make a second jump is I was too scared to remember what happened on the first one. To this day all I can remember is the first part of my count. Tink1717 2 #36 October 31, 2009 I did ask all three questions at Maytown ad to Dave, Dick and others directly. I just wanted to hear more opinions. That was the reason I posted here.Skydivers don't knock on Death's door. They ring the bell and runaway... It really pisses him off. -The World Famous Tink. (I never heard of you either!!) SStewart 13 #38 November 1, 2009 No worries Kevin, But honestly with all you went through in the last few years with your knee and recovery I don't understand why you would risk further injury jumping antique gear you have no experience with. You have never jumped a round, the belly mount reserve will be even harder to land if you have to use it. Think long and hard about this one. And make sure you got your ducks in a row. On the positive side Maytown would be the perfect place to do this. Wide open landing areas and friendly Amish farmers to help you when they find you. For practice do about 20 PLF's off the platform and have Ken critique you. (20 in each direction, forward, right, left, backward, right left) Then get in a hanging harness and practice cutaways with shot and a half capewells. Be sure to get pictures and video.Onward and Upward!

OldMan 0 #42 November 8, 2009 Get an old timer who knows how to spot chunk a WDI while you are on the ground, watch the WDI,see where it lands and your spot is the same distance in the opposite direction. You can't chunk a WDI from an Otter yourself and keep up with it until it lands unless you can get the pilot to do a tight orbit over the landing area which is not likely on a full load.Go to altitude, why screw around? Pull at about 3500 ft,set up at at a chest high attitude before you pull. If the PC is sleeved you will get a really quick solid opening,if it is in a pod you will get a damn quick opening and may see stars.Play around with it,practice with the rear risers to see how it reacts.Experienced PC jumpers use a hook turn to land, but for you land into the wind. About 4 ft above the ground pull the rear risers as far as you can.Prepare to plf but don,t be surprised if you stand it up. Just jump the damn thing !!
