dks13827 3 #1 July 2, 2009 In 1973 while stationed at Ft Sam Houston we jumped at the little San Marcos airport just south of I-35. DZO's were Larry Van Horne D-2117 and Norma Van Horne C-6057. Norma was the widow of Rick Burke who went in because of a ripcord stop on his main ripcord which entangled with his reserve after a cutaway. Local jumpers included Jerry Guildner B-9224, Mike Harris A-3528, Mario Garza C-7349, Homer Hudson, Tom Manchure. Charlie Robinson D-3188 was a visiting jumper from FL and Terry Chavez, from Albuquerque, NM.

dks13827 3 #3 July 2, 2009 Last I heard, Terry was married and living in Houston. We OK jumpers were buddies with Terry, Ed Christy, and Jim Copsey. They were all great guys !!! Terry had moved to OK and showed up at the Stroud DZ. He was a jumpmaster and since my sorry assed jumpmaster didnt come to the DZ much Terry took over and put me out on my 4th, 5th, and 6th ( 1st FF ) jumps ! We later did many RW jumps together. drjump 0 #4 July 3, 2009 I made three jumps there in July, 1973 at a Texas Parachute Council quarterly meet. Which, by the way got called off due to bad weather. Jerry Seal (sp) was also one of the owners/operators along with Van Horn. Was this the weekend that a plane landed gear up? All the jumpers were ready with fire extinguishers, and rescue gear but were not deeded.

docjohn 0 #6 July 11, 2009 I can't believe I heard that name after 34 years! Larry and Norma started the Alamo Skydivers in San Antonio. I made my first static line jump with Larry at Pleasanton, Tx in 1975. I always wondered what became of him after that. They got divorced a few years later. I spoke with Norma last year. She's living in Austin Texas these days. Also I jumped with Terry Chavez at the Ft Hood Sport Parachute Club several times around 1977-78. Lost track of him, Al Pohl, and the rest of the gang. Still have the old FHSPC newsletters though. Whoa! A blast from the past! Doc http://www.manifestmaster.com/video
