quade 4 #1 March 25, 2002 QuoteJump#7....7 way cluster dive!!! The Georgia Tech 4 way team has been practicing a lot lately. (Watcher is on that) Well.....we got together 7 free flyers and chased them out the door. Funneled their formation and then took off on a nice sunset tracking dive.Oh my god.I can not imagine people responding well to this, but I guess you guys pulled it off. Wow. You guys must really have a different attitude toward skydiving down there that we do over here. Pulling a stunt like that here would have at least gotten you banned from the DZ. Afterall, it IS kind of dangerous to just sort of "show up" in somebody else's skydive.Glad it all came off well.quadehttp://futurecam.com
PhreeZone 20 #2 March 25, 2002 I was thinking the same thing Quade.... the word "Lurk" makes me cringe too since most people don't really ask and brief with the jumpers that they are following out. They jump about a half second later and stay at a distance.... BAD JUJU.....I wish you would step back from that ledge my friend... ~3EB
freeflir29 0 #3 March 25, 2002 Quoteit IS kind of dangerous to just sort of "show up" in somebody else's skydive.Yes it is.....we aren't stupid. Precautions were taken and only experienced people that are very good flyers were in on this. We had a guy with 30 jumps on the plane but he was told to stay FAR away from all this. He said it was really fun to watch though....."I only have a C license, so I don't know shit..right?"-Clay
RozeAY 0 #4 March 25, 2002 Its all good...myself and one of my teammates had just had our 100th jump...and a lot of people decided to join us. But a few had hovered around us before they got us so we were aware of their presence. And like Clay said, they were all experienced enough to make it safe. :-)

Jonathan thought we might bring it back together, but Allison and I were off with everyone else immediately, so it didn't happen ;-) Anyway, this was our 7th dive of the day, it was a beautiful sunset load, and it was tons of fun.And since Allison and I had both just hit our 100th jump, it was more of a celebration. The cameraman even decided to go headdown for the remainder of the dive. When we got down, Allison and I got pied, and we watched the videos of the whole thing (including footage from Tim's new "camera attached to the bottom of the plane," which looks so cool, everyone just streaming out right after us).I suppose some people would be upset, but the DZ covered our slots for the jump, and the comradery was high - so no complaints here.-CraigIt's suddenly coming towards me very fast, so flat and round. quade 4 #6 March 25, 2002 Like I said, I'm glad it all came off well.If you suppose that some people might be upset by this sort of thing, you're absolutely correct, but as long as you guys didn't have a problem with it and nobody got hurt, then I guess it's ok for you and your team.Improptu skydives are a wonderful thing, but that said, I do not think it's a wise idea to to lurk unannounced and I definately wouldn't condone anyone ever intentionally funneling anybody else's skydive -- no matter who they were.I know for a fact that funneling or even getting near my 4-way team would get you thrown off the DZ. Of course, we're all premadonnas. quadehttp://futurecam.com

weid14 0 #8 March 25, 2002 You don't have to be a premadonna to get upset with it. Understand at the level of 4 way that Quade is filming (I know the folks on his team, well two of them anyway -- they're good), things happen fast and you are only focused on what you are doing with your team mates -- to have a flock come up and funnel your formation would pretty much cause a rucuss, unless it was dirt dove before hand. One of these days we're going to do a hybrid dive with Monkey Claw, all planned and all 4 way formations (they will do the moves in a vertical plane, we will be horizontal), much planning and prep will go into it. Just think if the team was practicing blocks that required a vertical move, It would really ruin someones day if the free flier was coming in while the individual was popping up for the vertical and they collided. SkymonkeyONE 4 #9 March 25, 2002 I guess things are just a LOT more country over here, because nobody is going to kick anyone off a DZ on this coast unless the DZO really has a cob up his ass. Worst case scenario would be some beer bought. This, assuming it was something that a DZ fixture like myself or one of the other old guys put together. Some groups just NEED to be screwed with on occasion to lighten them up. Nothing dangerous by any means, but turning a small group into a larger one happens quite often around here.ChuckMy webpage HERE

quade 4 #11 March 25, 2002 You mean to tell me that I can follow out the GKs, funnel 'em and not get thrown off the DZ? Really?Damn!quadehttp://futurecam.com
udecker 0 #12 March 26, 2002 QuoteUnderstand at the level of 4 way that Quade is filming (I know the folks on his team, well two of them anyway -- they're good)Um... ok, so we're not that good. Thanks for pointing that out. Nonetheless, if the slot is covered, you can always try the dive again. Hell, there was a point that we just couldn't get right all day long, and we didn't get to fix it. But we will the next time we jump together, so nothing is lost. We were being totally serious all day long, and it was nice to know that all the folks in the 7-way took their slots to come and remind us that we're having fun up there. If it were a once-a-day occurrance, I can see the frustration, and obviously their intent would be important. If you're funnelling a formation just to be a prick, that's one thing. But if you're a bunch of folks having good spirited fun, what's the harm?I wish I could relate to that mentality... not once (until I read this thread) did I even think about this being a bad thing. We're quite serious about our training - but banning someone from the DZ because of something like that? Wow.-CraigIt's suddenly coming towards me very fast, so flat and round. RozeAY 0 #14 March 26, 2002 OK, the point was made that this dive was potentially dangerous. However, in this case, everybody was experienced and were careful. We all had a blast - especially my team. It meant a lot to us that those 7 people cared enough to want to come out and have some fun with us...because we had been working so hard and 2 of us were celebrating our 100th jump. They opted to remind us why we are up there...to be in the sky and have fun. And that is exactly what we did. Can we please just leave it at the fact that yesterday in Georgia 13 skydivers had an absolute blast on their last jump of the day?
udecker 0 #15 March 26, 2002 QuoteIt's not so much that folks are too serious, but that it's damn dangerous.Quade, nothing about what they did was dangerous. By saying they "funnelled" our formation, they came in and made it quite obvious that they were there, and broke up the formation. Sure, it was surprising, but it was gentle and amusing, not forceful or violent. Certainly not something to be reprimanded about.-CraigIt's suddenly coming towards me very fast, so flat and round. weid14 0 #16 March 26, 2002 It wasn't me that was saying getting tossed off the DZ, it's more of a safety concern for me (and I wasn't implying your team was not good, I was relating to Paul's comments). When I'm doing 4 way (99% of my skydives), I'm concentrating on my clone, all the reference points and where I have to be in the sky for the next point, not a free flier that is going to join the formation. Fun is cool, I'm all for it, as long as it is safe.
