skycat 0 #2 April 5, 2002 I've done 3 raft jumps with no issues, and we got out of the raft at like 6K so my audible wasn't affected at all. I did make sure to look at the anchor's altimeters and tried to keep my one hand with the alti in the air stream. Same issues for the cypress, we got out of the raft long before firing altitude. PhreeZone 20 #3 April 5, 2002 The entire raft in causing a huge burble (Aprox 12 feet up and the size of the raft as a cameraman discovered last summer). Anything inside the raft is affected by being in the burble. You can actaully talk to one another while in the raft... the safest thing to do is have one person stick thier arm out in the clean air the keep a semi-accurate altitude reading. We were seeing the average altimeter read about 600-1000 feet high why in the rafts burble completly. If you ride a raft to cypres range... not much will save ya... Audibles will be off too.Do a search on here or one of the other fourms, I wrote up a short piece on how to ensure the highest chance of successfully launching a raft.I also included my feelings on idea break and recovery of a raft. Losing a raft at 12500 because of a poor exit SUCKS!13/15 Successful raft jumps last year... 3 lost rafts I wish you would step back from that ledge my friend... ~3EB
AndyMan 7 #4 April 5, 2002 I would think that there'd be a big low preasure burble above the raft. Low preasure equals higher altitude, so flying into the burble would translate to adding a few hundred feet to your altitude - not subtracting any.So rafts won't cause your cypres to pre-fire, which is what I think you're worried about.HOWEVER - it could cause your cypres to NOT fire when it should, so make sure you're being altitude aware. Being in the of the raft burble will delay the cypres fire to the point that you're too low to open and land safely..._AmICQ: 5578907MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com AIM: andrewdmetcalfeYahoo IM: ametcalf_1999
JJohnson 0 #5 April 6, 2002 Your Cypress will not fire premature due to the burble caused by the raft. However should you be in the burble at Cypress firing altitude, it will not fire at the correct save your ass altitude. As the Cypress should have been set at your field elevation, as soon as you get back into clean air, it will track altitude correctly again. As it was explained to me, the Cypress is designed to be tracking altitude in your own burble, while you are belly to Earth. It is mounted on your back, so it is in a burble normally.Conversely, if you are in a head down or standing position, it will fire slightly higher. This is my understanding based on a conversation I had with SSK after having my Cypress fire while fighting a sniveling main canopy. Result was two canopies out.JJ
