?QuoteWho took the tie originally? Duane or somebody
Duane knew
Supposedly Duane took the tie and he was as the story goes working in that Hotel at the time.
This was within a short time after he is released from Jefferson - I do not know if he participated in a work release at that time or why a hotel would hire a 6 time felon. This is why I felt he may have had an accomplilce or just managed to acquire the pass key from housekeeping. Therefore an innocent accomplice. (That is theory because all I know is he did work for a hotel in that area and that he claimed to have taken the tie of this politician - This TIE was his PRIZE POSSESSION and the family knew this.)
This politician was killed and the very next yr. Duane finds he is ill and his marriage is falling apart and he isn't making any money because he is an ex-con - there is so much more to this part of the story - and it is not good. All the FBI needs are the facts not the sordid details.
The FBI just needs to check out the names Duane worked under with a work release and right after discharge from Jefferson.

In 1971 the tie being left on the plane was letting his family know who he was if he didn't make it. It was symbolic - eplaining why he did what he did. (That part is Theory - the story of how the tie was acquired is NOT).
Duane left the tie on the plane?

see, this bit actually makes no sense. why would you leave a tie on a plane? most likely options for "not making it" are:
(1) killed by law enforcement - in which case you have a body for identification
(2) body disappears forever into the woods (or river, or whatever). if you believe that as an option, well then cooper could still be a body out there somewhere.
if you were going to leave something on a plane to identify you, surely something better than mass produced cheap stuff? maybe his grudge was that he couldn't afford real ties and decent tie pins?

Jo states above: "In 1971 the tie being left on the plane was letting his family know who he was if he didn't make it. It was symbolic - eplaining why he did what he did."
How would Duane's family, or the politician's family,
ever connect some tie left on #305 retrieved in Reno
and not even described to the public until years later.
Why would Duane's family or the politician's family
be paying attention to events in Washington or the
Cooper hijacking? Missouri is a long long way from
the State of Washington, in every respect.
The tie is completely nondescript. A common off the
shelf black JC Penny tie of which there were
millions. Nothing about the tie stands out even if
the facts of the tie had been published at the time.
The same for the tie clasp.
What guarantees Duane's family or the politician's family are paying any attention to the Cooper
hijacking or to Duane, to connect Duane with this
airplane hijacking? By all accounts Duane did not
have a reputation as a parachutist at the time, so
what stands out to Duane's family to connect him to these events?
Its my experience that when families break up
the spouse usually wants nothing to do with the husband and is not keeping track of the husband,
and knows nothing of the husband especially if he
has left the area, and wants the husband to vanish never to surface again, at least for some time
usually years! Child support was not
an issue in 1968 especially in Missouri.
In previous posts, Jo has already maintained that
Duane was in hiding following the hijacking. Why
would Duane leave something at a crime scene
that anyone could use to identify him with? That his ex-wife would connect to him, in a new crime!?
Couldnt she use that against Duane if she chose?
How can you be hiding and leaving evidence people
will recoignise all at the same time? What guarantees
some Judas wont use that evidence to convict you?
In any event, evidently the plot to leave a tie to
notify his family, failed. Only Jo ever saw and made the connection, second hand.
If Duane's family ever saw or knew the connection
based on the tie, then obviously they failed to do
anything with that information. Could they be
prosecuted now for their failure to notify authorities?
That must be what Jo is referring to when she says
she doesn't want to see anyone hurt now?

Orange and Georger make some really logical points about the tie. It is like leaving a lucky penny or a rabbits foot on the plane. The item may have meant a lot to the person who left it, but it is so common an item. How could Cooper expect such a common item to have such significance to anyone learning of its presence on the plane?
My reference to Watergate was just analogizing the Jefferson breakin to a more famous political burglary.

I seriously do not think the politicians family would have notice this at all. BUT what you do not know is the family connections to WA state and those of Duane at that time and in the past.
I do not know the dates of the family connections to WA. but it is more than co-incidental. I also cannot disclose that information - it is simply a background search on 3 names - showing the times they resided in WA. Duane is not included in that 3.
This is something the FBI needs to do and should have done when I told them about certain parties that resided in WA in 1971. One of these 3 denied later a connection to WA, but early on had made statements to the contrary.
Service records should confirm two of the WA connections for that time period.
If Duane had disappeared (died) in the jump - the family would have made the connection due to the composite, the tie and his background. They knew he was an ex-con and were aware of his criminal activities.
I cannot give details - that is the FBI's job - If Carr really wants to solve this - and he CAN'T find the information I am talking about in the file on Duane - then they need to contact me.
Back in the beginning I gave the FBI these connections.

uh... Jo has just informed me via a PM she is feeling very poorly, and may be headed for the ER, so she
may be unavailable to answer here for a bit.
Thats all I know.

The bucket has been found and an investigator is looking into it.
...at least, that is my theory and I can make it fit all the available facts.

QuoteDna testing can Identify a ethinic group. If it does do you think that it would stop false claims from others that claim to be or to know who Cooper is.Just a question. What do you guys think
It would definately shift people's focus.
But it would also increase pressure from new
directions including to have the FBI profiles
released so people could judge the
reliability of the ethnic estimates ...
Here is a link which explains Haplotyping etc.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genealogical_DNA_test
Here is a snip which explains a little of what is
involved -
"" Ethnicity testing can be carried out in a number of ways. The two most common are mitochondrial DNA and Y chromosome testing. Testing mitochondrial DNA - chromosomes passed exclusively through the female line which change little over time - pinpoints an individual's maternal ancestry. Testing the Y chromosome, passed from father to son, can reveal a person's paternal lineage.
Autosomal testing offers a complete picture of an individual's ancestry, whereas mitochondrial DNA and Y chromosome tests reveal just one element. To find out more, go to www.dna-bioscience.co.uk.""
