Lockheed 10E

Recommended Posts

These are from March of 1976. It was a CPI road trip to warm, sunny Z-Hills during a cold, nasty New England winter.

There is a VERY well-known RW guy in one of the pictures who most should recognize.

Is that Roger Ponce in sunglasses opposite the guy in the pink jumpsuit?

Although I didn't start skydiving until much much later, that person does have a semblance to Roger, as I've done some excellent fun big ways with him several years back.

Electra, not Loadstar. Hard to believe 10Es were ever used for jumping... only a few E models were ever made (6 or so I think?). They were the really fancy ones with extra power. Don't think there are any E's still flying except for one that was converted from an A model to recreate (most of) Amelia Earhart's last flight 10 years ago. (And that one isn't flying anymore anyway).

Capable of carrying 12 skydivers comfortably, the 10E, along with the 196, was the mainstay at Z'hills in the first half of the 70s. I made 449 jumps from 'Amelia' before she was sold to Paul Fayard. She later featured on the dustjacket of Skies Call II and then suffered a hangar fire before being rebuilt and ending up in a museum.
