"I want to wait to get stable..."

Recommended Posts

Um Andy... you might want ot talk to Andre about this video, he can explain it really good but from memory I seem to remember this was a bird man jump that after he choped he had to grab the wings to cut them away, had problems doing that then got the reserve out really low... It was'nt just a normal jump...

Oops. Still, that's just testimonial to how little time there is to screw around, "waiting to get stable".
Interesting video. Was it discussed online? I must've missed that.

One lucky S.o.B. - some angel was smiling upon him/her that day :)If the individual was jumping a birdman, the post-mortum of that close call might be 'pull higher, cutaway quicker (if possible), and if you are jumping a bird-man, consider investing in a slightly larger, more forgiving canopy that isn't prone to spinning up than the one you use for fun jumping - to help mitigate risk'?
One has to wonder that as birdman suits become more popular if the fatality percentage due to them will not shoot up as well, much like the increase in high performance canopies saw an increase in landing fatalities, because the equipment improved faster than the training?
Went and snagged that short film 'G' this morning and showed it to one of the guys in the office. Very, very errie.

...per's own words...
"My name is Per Eriksson, my nick is PerFlare, and it is me on the video. I'm one of the guy's in the "Off the mountain ..." also. I don't mind guy's watching the video but please do not say it is a fake, it did not feel like a fake when it happend :-)
About the reservride (short version):
I did some aggressive canopy control at 400m and I had my wingsuit on. I ended up with a linetwist. When I tried to cut away I did not work. I guess that my rig with softhausing was an issue, me wearing gloves another. I took my gloves of and then did a successful cut away.
Then I tried to pull my reserve but was unsuccessful because the wingsuit was in the way. when I finally did get my reservhandle out it was a little bit low. I do not have a cypress or a RSL I was just lucky to get a fast opening and lucky enough to miss a big aircrafthangar. As you can see I did a nice landing and did not have a scratch ...
What can I say, sometimes you are just lucky!"
think andre is just the guy that nicked this clip from headdown.net and then put it on his personal page on 2bizarre...OR he could be jumping with Per...but i could be wrong on both accounts.

Glad you made it Per!!!
But that was a "little close". I understand the mechanics of this jump........... but we can all take this as a little reminder about pull altitude...... and altitude awareness!!!
Thanks for posting this as I just keep watching this over and over!!!

So, thinking my office must have a better computer than me, I tried unsuccessfully to download it there and watch it. So I came home, and, as I was getting sleepy, I decided to try to download this and watch it really quick before I head off to bed. Surprise, it worked.
And now, I can't sleep.
Holy fuck! That was close.
Glad he was o.k.
'Nuff said.
