jonstark 8 #1 October 9, 2006 Met a guy at an airport party in Corona that had some great tales of jumping long ago. He used to fly and jump out of Long Beach, CA from 1949 into the mid fifties. He told me a couple of good stories one of which was an attempt at a sorta Mr Bill or attached canopy deployment... Two guys climb out of a low wing a/c with a rope slung under the belly of the a/c. They both static line exit and try to pull each other towards the other so they could disconnect their canopies and swap them mid-air. Problem was as they pulled towards each other the unmodified canopies slipped harder and harder away from each other. He had more stories too and was real nice to talk to. Sadly he had stopped by Elsinore in recent years to shoot the breeze with some jumpers only to get the cold shoulder from some youngsters. Their loss! jon
