nacmacfeegle 0 #26 May 13, 2002 Valid points Tom.....However, a couple of weeks ago, I was jumping at a new DZ. Strong instructions were made on tracking direction, ie DO NOT track up or down the jump run. After an uneventful sit fly I turn and burn towards the lake, as instructed....As I track and barrell roll I see someone from another group cross me at 90 deg, ie tracking down jump run. I guess I could have been that 'mysterious' canopy if I didn't see em.A good way to check your heading maintenance is to barrell roll on the ever popular tracking dives.CyaD
rgoper 0 #27 May 13, 2002 **I can out track anyone I jump with**in my opinion, your setting yourself up here, with overconfidence. i'm not saying you can't "out track" anyone you jump with, but it's a *bit* cocky, and could wind up getting you in a bind. LawnDart21 0 #28 May 13, 2002 There is a difference between being"cocky" and "cock sure"..........LOL I'm not the best skydiver at my DZ by any stretch, but I am 6'1", with long arms and long legs, tall and lanky and weigh 195lbs. I was told by my AFF instructor two years ago that I was aerodynamically designed to track well.....LOL My point was simply that if people track correctly (which alot of jumpers don't), they will gain alot of seperation. ie, out run the enemy (other canopies) and they become less of a factor. And of course, I always check above me before I deploy, I just feel that a head glance each way is effective as opposed to a barrel role. No biggie. As I said, it could be argued either way, my personal preference is not to barrel role. I think it's safer to just track correctly (fast and straight, perpendicular to the DZ) and get as much seperation as you can from others, as the farther and faster you go, the less likely you will have to deal with someone under you or over you."I live to EFS!"Tom
PhreeZone 20 #29 May 13, 2002 I'm built similar, 6'2" 170 pounds with winter weight. I did a tacking dive not long ago and leading on my belly in an iron cross the others had to work to stay with me. In a full track I'm out of a sky dive before I need to worry about rolling around. The big thing it to track FLAT!!! If you track steep down its a lot easier for people to track over you. If you track flat people will track under of if anything...If once you start down the dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny, consume you it will....
