I ran across both Smitty and Jack Lalonde at the Nationals held at Z-hills a few years ago. Neither of them seemed to have aged a bit, and it was just like the good old times at Indiantown. And they can both still whup me at accuracy, darn it. It's nice to know that the Beaver is still out there flying.

Usetawuz 1 #33 November 11, 2005 Don't know if these were already posted. Hope not. Some oldies from back-in-the-day. These things were great for covering holes in your jumpsuit. _________________________________________ The older I get, the better I was!
airtwardo 7 #34 November 11, 2005 I'm familiar with the term "Wartha Fugawee", but what's the story behind how that got on a patch? Too many bad spots? Too many "out" landings? *** To make a long story short..... (Yeah I know...a first for me!) Jumping with a demo team on the West Coast that gave a free demo to some 'company picnic' because we landed in a park a good 10 miles away from the ACTUAL demo site. I was trying to organize a 'rescue ride' out of there and got caught on camera asking 8-10 times... airtwardo 7 #36 November 11, 2005 I think it was a take off on red cross type safety symbols *** White & green with a cross are still 'universal' symbols for safely... But it does look more like a religious cross than a 'red cross' of a different color....things were less P.C. back then I guess! ~ If you choke a Smurf, what color does it turn? ~
JohnRich 4 #37 November 11, 2005 QuoteThe crossed arrow symbol was for the cross series in the style event! Did they have seperate symbols for each of the series: left, right, left cross, and right cross?
JohnRich 4 #38 November 11, 2005 QuoteAlthough it looks religious now, I think it was a take off on red cross type safety symbols, with the arrow pointing up because we are up in the air. That makes sense. Like the "Diver Up" bumper stickers, with a blue background representing the sky.
JohnRich 4 #39 November 11, 2005 The SFSPC patch has an elephant on it - how in the heck did that come to represent skydiving? (Thinking of that movie "Dumbo Drop", or my fall rate after eating Thanksgiving turkey...) The Blue Stars patch has a circle on the ground like a target, with what looks like a "K" inside it. What's the "K" represent? Maybe the runway layout at the airport? Neat patches. Thanks for sharing those.
kallend 2,121 #40 November 11, 2005 Quote I like the Freak Bothers patch too. Does Linda Gies know you've got that ?? Freak Brother patches are still available (to the original design): freak-brother.com/patches.html... The only sure way to survive a canopy collision is not to have one. Usetawuz 1 #41 November 12, 2005 The SFSPC patch definitely has nothing to do with dropping Dumbo or Dumbo droppings---fall rate? ---ehhh could be. Actually that three-headed elephant is symbolic of Thailand (like there's elephants all over the place??) and appears on lots of things. The "K" in the circle is really just part of someone's ego trip. The patch was designed by an long-time American resident of Thailand, named Richard "Kit" Carson. His momument to himself I've a bunch more patches but have no idea where. _________________________________________ The older I get, the better I was! tbrown 26 #45 November 29, 2005 QuoteHere are some more patches that haven't been around for a while: 1) SCR - participant in an 8-way or larger formation. 2) SCS - docked last on an 8-way or larger formation. 3) NSCR - participant in an 8-way or larger night-jump formation. These are my own well-worn versions, which have been sewn to one end of my gear bag for over 20 years now. Recently found both my old SCR (8018) and SCS (4497) patches and got them sewn onto my jumpsuit. The SCS has changed, nowadays it's got a picture of a skydiver in the middle. Mine is the old kind, looks like the SCR only it's red, with the Bob Buquaor Memorial thing written around the edge. Checked out their website and noticed the WSCR (Women's Starcrest) is altogether missing WTF happened to that & how come ??? Your humble servant.....Professor Gravity ! steve1 5 #49 November 30, 2005 Anyone out there have an all-collegiant eight way (ACE) patch? This was started by B.J. Worth back in the 70's and looked a lot like the SCR, but different colors. I e-mailed Bill Newell about it. He said he remembers it, but it never really caught on and has since been forgotten. I remember seeing a jumper or two from Lost Prairie (recently) that had this patch on the gear bag. I think they were Idahoians....Steve1
