Having some first hand knowlege, If you own the land and the Aircraft , you stand a chance to be other than "non-profit". Otherwise you are providing a service because you love the sport.

***Havn't you heard the old saying how do you make a million running a DZ, invest 2 million. I know people do the owner thing because they love this life style. .

Too true!

A DZO of a large DZ told me once, you want to make money in skydiving, take a million dollars and get ready to piss it away, and when your done pissing that away, go borrow a million dollars from someone else and piss it away, then youll be a DZO of a little dropzone.
I am one who actually does sell drugs (well sorta) to fuel his skydiving addiction.

hi gettting rich is never been possible for me. yes of course i have brought parachute from the money which i earned in packing and doing tandems and some demo jumps. when everything was in place i lost the cessna in acrash so squared to 1(may be -).
so took new profession, kept all parachute in cup boards

How about you...how did you do in the parachuting business; did you make any money?
Don't even get me started down THAT road!!!!!!!! All things being equal, I learned a whole lot more than I bargined for. Overall it was a rewarding experience albeit not monetarily.
Do it again? Sure why not, I discovered so much about my abilities and resourcesfullness (real word?).

I am amazed that anyone would run a DZ. Risk: HUGE, reward: small. I am sure glad that DZOs don't look at things the way I do or I'd have nowhere to jump. Oh, and $20 for a ride to 14K? Ridiculously cheap. It cost MORE than that in the old days if you adjust for inflation.
Thanks to all you hard working DZ owner managers coaches pilots riggers packers. and the rest of us who keep the slots filled.
We are very rich in one sence we are rich in good times. oh so rich in good times.
