wmw999 2,588 #1 April 29, 2005 I'm mildly curious about my FJC instructor (ca. 1975). He was an itinerant jumpmaster/instructor named Lewis Melton. Wore a maroon beret () and was full of stories about his godliness in California where he started jumping. To my 20-year-old eyes he looked pretty middle-aged, which probably means he was maybe 40 . Other Houston jumpers remember him, because he stuck around here, as far as I can tell only instructing, for about 2 years, and then continued on down the road. So -- anyone else remember him? Usually instructors work for a dropzone that they've been jumping at (well, in those days at least). In this case, he contracted with local non-DZ airports for his classes; they were set up through colleges, and advertised in the newspaper, Wendy W.There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. (tbrown)
