fasterfaller 0 #26 July 13, 2002 I have used double wraps for over 10 years and over 4000 jumps . I have NEVER had a bag lock . I have double wraped both rubber bands and tube stoes . I would NOT double wrap small bands or tube stoes . I have a friend of mine that packs for me from time to time and he single wraps with 6"+ stows . He has over 50,000 pack jobs done this way with 0 baglocks . I have never had a bad opening with his packjobs .
AggieDave 6 #27 July 13, 2002 Right on, well, I've learned something new from this thread.Although, I'm going to continue to not use double wraps and just use small rubberbands.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." ltdiver 3 #28 July 14, 2002 ok....found a 'cure' for my new pc 'fast-snatch' problem. I needed to 'age' my new pc and slow it down. Stopping short of punching holes in it, or setting it out in the sun for an hour. Instead I put it in a mesh bag (one that is used for washing delicate clothing) and put it through a couple of wash/rinse cycles in my washing machine. (very little gentle liquid soap). Worked like a charm, and my canopy openings were wonderful this weekend! (note, however...this was -not- recommended by my rigger, once he found out what I'd done, but it worked for me! A 'total mal' was a concern, if this weakened the fabric too much...but it didn't. So...problem solved and my neck is very happy now). lowhook 0 #29 July 15, 2002 QuoteThe short of it is, line stows don't actually effect how hard or soft an opening is (excluding some extreme cases, like total line dump, etc). A nicely staged opening requires good stows. The bag has to be accelerated to the speed of the jumper in order to create sufficient air pressure to keep the slider up during canopy extraction. Good stows allow for snatch, snivel, and inflation to each play their appropriate role in creating a nice soft opening. If you don't believe this try increasing the size of your pilot chute and see what happens.
ifallout 0 #30 July 16, 2002 It looks to me like a 6 inch line stow is asking for a one stow through the other line lock? i mean I am glad your friend has done that so many times and had good results and all, but no canopy manufacturer is ever going to say that is a good idea. I have a friend that drinks and drives all the time, must have 50000 miles like that, still don't make it a good idea.
