Aff Level 8

Recommended Posts

:S Am I alone on this one. I 'am slowly getting through my AFF am on level 8, but it has taken me 15 jumps so far, I seem to loose it on the few seconds leaving the plane. My 15 jumps have been taken at 4 different DZ's, and I will be on my 5th to finish my aff I hope. At the third DZ this wanker the SFO said anyone can skydive all I've got to do is arch and remember to pull, he also asked what job I did, he really got on my tit, and did'nt make me feel easy. Like it was my problem and I've got to sort it. I know it's down to me. But I felt like chucking the hole thing in, he really zapped my confidence. The next DZ a lady instructor looked at my videos and saw the problem straight away and what to do to put it right, I did a one on one with her, more money. And almost got it, I felt I almost got, but she really helped me. I travel so had to move on, I'm near another drop zone and will be here for ayear I only hope someone takes me under there wing, as we were'nt all born with balls of steel.

Hey dont worry about freaking out, we have all been there (well most of us) as long as your safe in the air. When I was a student on jump run the only things I would think about is getting a good exit (which includes getting into a stable body position), maintain height awareness and have FUN (i know its easier said then done ;)) cause my theory was as long as I could achieve those goals every thing else that I needed to do on that jump would just fall into place..no pun intended :)
Just dont give up...trust me its worth it in the end!

Cheers

Hang in there...
I had problems during Level 1-7 too. Took me 8 jumps before I got to level 4. (ouch!!! said my bank account). My problem solved itself when I was allowed to jump with sneakers, instead of boots. (Students have to jump with boots that gives ancle support at my dz). Suddenly I felt the wind on my feet. Suddenly I was in control and then I relaxed. From there I just surfed through the rest of the levels.

Not all instructor are good at finding and solving your problems. The best piece of advice I can give is to jump more. Relax and be friends with the wind. Once you stop fighting it, it comes natural. I know it isn't easy. Don't stress it, keep it fun!

I can promise that jumping get more and more fun the more you jump. You might wanna try some really unstable exit. Play air guitar, backflips, superman, etc. They can be quite fun. Try to become unstable and get stable again, but be stable from 8000' and down so you got loads of time.

The sky is our playground :D

There are only 10 types of people in the world. Those who understand binary, and those who don't.

Maybe switching dropzone so often is not such a good idea; I guess it helps a jumpmaster getting to know you better. For the rest let the wind do its job and be stable (on your belly) when pulltime comes...my beginners opinion..

Take some time off, save up some money. Then take a week off, and do as many jumps as you can in that week.

There's two things that kills your learning - changing instructors, and time between jumps.

You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
