UKKid35 1 #1 October 29, 2010 I want to go on a two week holiday in February, where should I go? I need somewhere with a bunkhouse or cheap accommodation nearby, with fairly reliable weather (I know there are no guarantees). Looking for suggestions anywhere worldwide. wmw999 2,583 #4 November 5, 2010 I'm not from there, but Eloy is pretty much always reliable in the winter. They have on-DZ eating, OK bunkrooms, good weather, and a large facility with lots of other vacationers from cold snowy places. Wendy P.There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. Thanks Wendy, sounds like a plan, but I was in Elsinore Jan 09, and the weather was pretty poor, so I considered heading for Eloy. But the weather reports were not so good so I stayed put. Are there any international destinations that you'd consider reliable in February? Thanks in advance
captain1976 0 #6 November 6, 2010 DeLand gets my vote, actually its my winter home. Great skydiving 7 days a week. Last Feb was a bit cold but the rest of the US was in a deep freeze as well. Average Feb temps in daytime is 77 and 50 is the low.You live more in the few minutes of skydiving than many people live in their lifetime

I used to jump at Space Centre Titusville when Mike X was there and running the bunkhouse, but I've not been back since everything changed. Having just checked their site it seems the bunkhouse is open again.

TIA Go to Spain: Empuriabrava. The best you can do at this time of the year. When will you have holidays? I'll be there end of Feb/begin of March. dudeist skydiver # 3105

I've never been there in spring, only in late summer when it can be rather windy. It's a shame the swimming pool has been left to fester, although that's not going to be a consideration for February. Empuria would certainly be the most cost effective option for me, but I was really hoping for somewhere warmer.
jonathan.newman 1 #10 November 7, 2010 I was at Skydive Spain this year in March. The weather was decent. The aircraft are top notch (15,000 ft in 15 mins, at 70% power). It was a bit cold and cloudy at times, but the rest of Spain, France, Germany, UK were having bad cold nasty weather. And they are a BPA DZ. Also, Algarve Portugal was nice the same time of year. Same planes, plus a Let 410. There is a bunkhouse in Spain. Skydive Sardegna in Italy also has nice Mediterreanean weather, and bunkhouse.

I've been spoilt by the Super King Air at Space Centre that reach 15k in half that time, everything else seems pretty leisurely now. But I've never been to Seville so that's a definite possibility. Skydive Sardegna sounds like a plan, I've jumped at Tortuga Arrezo before so they could have similar weather, and I've just found out they have a bunkhouse now. skymama 37 #17 November 8, 2010 QuoteWhat are the budget accommodation options? I don't remember a bunkhouse. The bunkhouse sleeps 6 people and is $2 a night. Bring your own sleeping bag and pillow. You can call ahead for reservations if you want, but it's usually not that crowded. It's very small, but there is a laundry area with refrigerator/microwave and bathroom right next to it. Just make sure you have low standards when you stay there. On the plus side, Deland has one of the best dz bars/restaurants around. They have a long list of people who rent rooms in homes, so email the dropzone at info@skydivedeland.com and they'll send you the list. There is no set person who makes runs to the airport, but let the dz know that you are looking for someone for pick-up/return trip and they're ask around for you. I do believe that Deland is closer to area shopping than other dz's, so it would probably be pretty easy to get someone to take you to the store for a sleeping bag or food. Just buy them a beer for their efforts. If you want to walk, it's probably a 15-20 min. walk to the grocery store and K-Mart.She is Da Man, and you better not mess with Da Man, because she will lay some keepdown on you faster than, well, really fast. ~Billvon
