flyhy 0 #1 September 5, 2002 I sort of get the feeling that I don't progress in my freefall manoeuvres. Everybody around me with less jumps is 'better' than me, in freefly as well as basic relative exercises and canopy control. What's wrong?! Are some people just not born to skydive? ..I'm getting depressed...
PhreeZone 20 #2 September 5, 2002 I think everyone has break through points and then stalling points. I went almost 200 jumps straight trying to learn HD, but I was never able to get stable so I accepted the fact and worked on my sit. Then all of a sudden I was able to fly HD. Same with swooping... I could never dive to a formation then all of a sudden one day I could and I could even do barrel rolls on the way... Stick with it... it only gets better Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
CanEHdian 0 #3 September 5, 2002 Yeah, stick with it - it'll come with time. Remember, it isn't much when you count the seconds/minutes we've flown up there... and never compare to what others say about themselves and how well they are doing - not always acurate data. Patience and perseverance... if it were easy, it wouldn't be as gratifying! Cheers, CanEHdianTime's flying, and so am I... cloud9 0 #4 September 5, 2002 You really also need to compare the type of jumps you make with the type the others are doing. If your just flailing around with other inexperienced jumpers you wont progress near as fast as if you can jump some with very experienced skydivers. But remember at your level success or failure on a skydive shouldn't be much more then if it went safely and you had fun, the rest is gravy or as we say in cajun country lagniappe or a little something extra! Deuce 1 #5 September 5, 2002 One word: Coaching. Sounds like you are at the point where you know what you're not doing well, so share that with a coach and get some video'd coached jumps. I will find a good flyer and pay their slot if they will put up with my newbieness and give me constructive feedback.
drenaline 0 #6 September 6, 2002 don't worry about that, just keep doing your best on every jump and you'll be a pro in no time. Good coaching with video (you have no idea how much the video helps) always helps and tunnel time too. Forgot to add this: I have 52 jumps and am very good at RW but it took me 50 jumps to get a nice exit (I kept funneling), and I still can't land on the spot I always land 100 - 200 - 300 meters off spot. Who said skydiving is not a sport? man do I walk! (yep as punishment I get no ride in car back to the hangar, I have to walk with my gear). airdrew20012001 0 #7 September 8, 2002 Could be a lot of reasons. How current you are, how focused you are, and how receptive to contructive advice you are all blends into it. Personally, I ask a lot of questions when a skydive goes wrong (ie I do crummy) and also ask people who are better than you what they did in the way of practice. I am by no means really great in head down but I can hang to the extent I can becuase I am (or was until I got hurt) super current (ie 380+ skydives in a calandar year) and I did a ton of solo's to hone my skill. People who excel in anything are commited, mindful, and practice. If anyone of those things is missing then there in could lie the difficulty. 'Sides, like anything else in life, the main thing is that you are having a good time. You may not have the most skill but that doesn't mean that you can't have the most fun. We all mature as skydivers at out own pace, you can however jump the curve in the having a good time and keeping a good attitude department which, in my humble opinion, is the most important part. But heh, what do I know? I am just a busted up camera geek pushing 600 skydives. Always smiling in the air, always laughing in the plane...Drewfus McDoofus
