Kinaa 0 #1 September 30, 2002 I had line twists yesterday on my Cobalt 135@1.3. Nothing hard, 4 twists, flew straight, easy to kick off... So here is the q. My canopy tends to open really slow, slower than other Atair canopys (Impulses) on my DZ, and the upper winds was pretty strong on that jump (I didn't have forward speed when I was facing the wind). So I'm wondering could this wind induce line twists? I'm pretty sure that I had good body position upon deployment, and packing was neat (packed at home I' always leave canopy unpacked after last jump). Kris 0 #2 September 30, 2002 Nope. You and your canopy are just objects moving in the air mass. The canopy doesn't care where the wind-direction is coming from and it has no influence over the canopy other than ground-speed. Line-twists can be caused by several things including: Poor body position, lax packing skills, improper stows, fate, and karma. I'll still have a 180 every now and then, but few & far between) after I read a PD article. It explains that you should not just let an opening happen to you: you control the opening. This article is written about the PD Velocity but the section at the bottom, "Additional notes on heading control during opening" applies to opening of any ram air canopy.
