chrismgtis 0 #1 September 14, 2008 I am applying to Full Sail in Orlando for a bachelors in film so I will be living in Orlando if I get everything I need. Looking at the drop zone list the closest drop zones appear to be Deland and Titusville but I saw an apparent Orlando DZ through Google? How far is Deland and Titusville, other drop zones within 2 hours drive? I'm sure the closest DZ will be my best bet, but I'm also curious if any others are within an hours drive and how they are for jumpers with just over 100 jumps, what kind of disciplines are there? I would like to get into CRW (the basics) at some point. The unfortunate thing is that I may need to sell my equipment just to pay the first 2 or 3 months of rent in Orlando which I am not happy about so any other suggestions are welcome, like if anyone lives in Orlando and would let me crash on the couch for 2 or 3 months. With Google maps I see that Deland and Titusville are both about 55 minutes from Winter Park (north of Orlando where the school is). karlm 0 #2 September 14, 2008 You have a few more choices in and around Orlando, some are more of a drive than others. Florida Skydiving Center at Lake Wales - Lots of CreW Dogs Skydive City - Z-Hills Skydive Deland Titusville Better never to have met you in my dream than to wake and reach for hands that are not there. chrismgtis 0 #3 September 14, 2008 Good. I was hoping their was something in Orlando. That DZ I found on Google said it had a CASA and Super Otter which is nice. It's nice to have all these other choices though. I've always driven 1 hour to the DZ so having Deland and other drop zones within an hour drive is really cool. Thanks for the info.Rodriguez Brother #1614, Muff Brother #4033 Jumped: Twin Otter, Cessna 182, CASA, Helicopter, Caravan
karlm 0 #4 September 14, 2008 Are you sure your Orlando DZ is not a Slyride ... er I mean Skyride operation? I've been in Fl for two years now and have not ever heard of an actual dz in Orlando Post the link you found on google ..... The page does seem kind of like a thrown up quickly template, but I can't say for sure if it's a legit page. Their page just could really suck. It also said something about videos on VHS tape and that doesn't make sense and theirs no actual non-stock like pictures. skymama 37 #7 September 15, 2008 There's no dz in Orlando. You should also include Z-hills and Sebastian on your list, they're not that much farther away. You better check and see if you can jump in Titusville, the last I heard you need a C license to jump there. She is Da Man, and you better not mess with Da Man, because she will lay some keepdown on you faster than, well, really fast. ~Billvon
PhreeZone 20 #8 September 15, 2008 That is a Skyride site. Their contact page tells you to contact them to buy gift certificates. The photos are from all over the US including Elsinore in Cali. howardwhite 6 #9 September 15, 2008 orlandoskydive.com is Skyride. It's from the friendly folks in Kennesaw, GA. From their home page: "The Skydive Orlando experience is the safest skydiving adventure that you can have in the Midwest."

chrismgtis 0 #11 September 15, 2008 Quote Ben and Cary strike again. That is a Skyride site. I had a feeling something was odd with that site. Well damn it all to hell. You need a C-license to jump Titusville? That sucks. Oh well, having Deland alone nearby satisfies me. I've always wanted to go to Sebastian so that's great. I'm happy with my options. Now I just hope I don't have to sale my stuff to pay the first 2 months of rent until my loans kick in.Rodriguez Brother #1614, Muff Brother #4033 Jumped: Twin Otter, Cessna 182, CASA, Helicopter, Caravan
Derekbox 0 #12 September 15, 2008 Full Sail is East Orlando- Paige goes to Full Sail, she is an all round cool chick and great contact to have in Orlando. Send her a message. A word of warning though, I have a few friends go through Full Sail, it is not your normal school. The schedule sucks the life from you. Ask Paige. Completely rule out Titusville. Even if you could jump there, you probably would not enjoy it. Most all the regular Titusville fun jumpers have stopped jumping there. It isnt a sport skydiving friendly dropzone any more (to be honest, I havent jumped there in years because I never liked it, this is what I have been told and seen). Deland is about 45 from E Orlando, nice easy drive. Always people around, always planes flying. It is where I learned to skydive. People may bash Deland, but I suggest you try it out for yourself, they have a lot to offer. Zhills is a great dz, about an hour and a half from E Orlando. I never got into the DZ because it wasnt my scene, but I never regret going. Lots of good belly flying and wing suiting. GREAT after hours socializing. Sebastian is also 1.5hrs from E Orlando and my home DZ. Most of the FL freeflyers come out here. We also have a decent belly scene. The views are amazing and the people are warm. Lake Wales has on occasion a Casa, but it is not a Casa dz. It is not a regular jumpship there. They bring it in for special occasions. I used to be a Lake Wales regular, but the dropzone really fell off. I hear it is slowly picking back up, but I have no desire to go there. Try it out if you wish, but last I heard it is pretty dead. D Awesome. Good info. Thanks. If you ever see the thread saying I am moving to Orlando, look me up. I'll definitely be happy to make friends when I get there. I'm aware that it's a pretty hard core attendance school. At first I didn't know and planned on looking for a job, but now I'm looking "forward" to getting $60,000 in loans just to attend and pay for living expenses. I realize the fact is, if I go it will either make or break my life. If I don't end up with a good job I am in debt I can't get out of. If I do, it might be a bit hard until I rise up in the ranks.Rodriguez Brother #1614, Muff Brother #4033 Jumped: Twin Otter, Cessna 182, CASA, Helicopter, Caravan

I know I'll have to come up with about $4000 to get there for the first 2 or 3 months and couple that with what I'm guessing will be around a $60,000 loan. Yea, that part does really suck.Rodriguez Brother #1614, Muff Brother #4033 Jumped: Twin Otter, Cessna 182, CASA, Helicopter, Caravan
buzzer 0 #16 September 16, 2008 Lake Wales seems to be trucking along. New hanger in a few months. Using a King Air with wide door, perhaps on Otter next month and several for the winter. Mix of fun jumpers, tandems, AFF's, Crew.

I've been in Fl for two years now and have not ever heard of an actual dz in Orlando Post the link you found on google ..... the DZ that "appears" to be in Orlando is in fact a skyscam website... Call the number... There are several good DZ's all within 2 hrs of Orlando. Skydive Sebastian is my favorite, Beautiful DZ, awesome people. Zhills is a good DZ There is also Lake Wales, Deland, Palatka (Home of the Hog Flop, one of the greatest boogies ever!) and Skydive Tampa Bay which is technically in Lakeland. I have never jumped at SD Tampa Bay and to the best of my knowledge, they are pretty much a small weekend DZ, but I have heard the vibe there is awesome. Thought I'd boost it up a bit by saying Lakeland, it is very close to the line anyway....

happythoughts 0 #24 September 23, 2008 clicky Now THIS is interesting. Click on this pic. clicky That is Lacey. I went through AFF with her. The pic is a scan from the cover of Parachutist. It was taken over Pahokee, back when it was open. They are ripping off PARACHUTIST? Nice! "No skydiving center in Florida has the amenities available at Skydive Clearwater" True. "No skydiving center" is exactly that.
