Sonic 0 #1 November 30, 2002 What's the ideal body position when cutting away aside from the obvious arch? Legs out? Legs tucked in? etc etc.----------------------------------- It's like something out of that twilighty show about that zone
billvon 3,120 #2 November 30, 2002 The Racer manual calls out that you should not be perfectly stable when opening your reserve; you should be head high (if possible.) Since that's usually the position you're in right after you cut away, that's good news.

drenaline 0 #4 November 30, 2002 I dunno if what am going to say has any value but I use a dolphin and when I opened my reserve for the repack the spring PC jumped to the ceiling not to the back. HISPA 21 www.panamafreefall.com
wmw999 2,589 #5 November 30, 2002 Well, my first cutaway was an early jump on my first piggy-back; I was trained on conventional gear. So I cut away, carefully brought my legs together and forward so I'd be belly up, and then dumped my reserve. It opened just fine In a masterful ignoring of the conventional wisdom, I also managed to land with both ripcords and the camera I'd brought up, too. I had 130 jumps. This is not ideal. Practicing is better... Wendy W. There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. billvon 3,120 #6 November 30, 2002 >Does this apply to all rigs? I don't know. It should, since a perfect belly-to-earth position is a good position for a PC hesitation, whereas a somewhat feet-to-earth position will give you better PC inflation and better absorption of opening shock. But only the Racer manual says so explicitly AFAIK.
