Party in d land? Rig hire and excitment

Very excited to say have just booked a ticket to florida, in 9 days arriving on the 16th or 17th... hell yeah. going to go to d land, however have a few problems, i have no rig at the momment. (previous thread shows why) i have some questions...
1. I need to hire or borrow one for the time being can YOU lend me one.??
2.can you demo whole rigs at that dropzone..
3.am i going to have problems with my jump numbers and wingloading getting a 190 in the states...(1.56 or somthing)
4.If i can demo one who do i need to beg.
5.I would love to get my FS1 out there do you do that in the us or is it a different system.. Could you recomend somone i could contact
6.Accomidation, is it any good at the DZ or does anyone have any recomendations.

Now for the b day bit....
I'm coming out with a girl who is going to have her 30 somthing birthday, and would like to make sure its a good night out for her..
Wheres a good place to go... Is there anyone who would take us out for a night of debauchery.
If its good i'll pay for the whole night, as a thankyou to which ever crazy fool says yes. (Wendys and booze)

Don't know about demos or lended rigs, but deland has very nice rental rigs... Vector 3s mostly I think with Sabre2s and probably other canopies. I rented there once when I was down there for some tunnel time without a rig. Wasn't cheap though.

I would hope they wouldn't give you a 190 at that loading.

I might even be at deland one of those days... I'll most likely be there on the 14th. Hopefully traveling to a few DZ over the week.

What exactly makes you think you're qualified to be jumping at 1.56 with 60 jumps?

What would make you think that somebody else would enable you to do that?

Even if you come to your senses, and look to rent a rig with a more reasonable wingloading (1.0 ~ 1.2), you may have a problem finding one with a harness to fit a guy who weighs 275 lbs.

Do you really weigh 275, or did you do the math wrong coming up with your 1.56 wingloading on a 190? Most gear in the US is only rated to 250 lbs. Even if you could find a harness to fit, they may not rent you one for the sake of exceeding the design limits.

This might have been something to look into BEFORE buying a plane ticket.

I may have got my maths wrong... A little

I'm 17 stone which is 238 lbs without gear on.. i figure the gear to weigh 20lbs or so.. is that about right??

so total a little less 258 lbs... I have quite a lot of muscle but am not an bull or anything... 6ft 2in

With the wing loading.. i was 15.5 stone when i started ( i.e after qualifying) or 210 lbs. and started on a spectre 210 .. giving me a 1.2 wing loading with gear.

Than i have been at the gym a lot so have gone back up in weight. slowley though... so the wing loading has steadily increased!!

Surley this is no worst than some1 downsizing from a 190 - 150.. if anything it must be better, as this is a gradual increase.

Not a deathwish by any means.. i have had no problems with the canopy, even with the increased weight and wingloading and keep myself current by jumping every week.

anyhow thanks for your concern, i do understand your point here, but as mentioned i took advice from 2 of my aff instructors and one of the guys who wrote the book on canopy handerling in england.

There are some other bits to my experiance (kite surfing etc), but i understand where your concern from what i had written comes from.

Maybe start off with a bigger rig, to show how my skills are, or have to borrow one in the uk and take it with me??

I say be proactive when you get there.

Go to the store, ask for Pine (instructor/store manager) and tell him about your wing loading and jumps ahead of time. He will make sure nobody gives you problems jumping your rig.

why dont you drop an email or phone call to Pine Pinar, he runs the gear store in deland, He can tell you if they have a rig that will work for you to rent. They might but Im thinking it may be a problem. Good luck, have a good trip.

Maybe get him to talk to the CCI or canopy coach where i jump. so he can get a heads up.

Like others have said, Pine is the one to talk to about renting a rig. Safety should be your biggest concern right now, so don't be upset if he puts you on something larger than a 190 at first. Remember that you are going to a new dropzone with an unfamiliar landing area so it's better to be safe than sorry.

PD is just down the road from the dz, so there are demo canopies available but I don't know the policy about putting them in rental rigs. Ask Pine about that when you talk.

You should take advantage of so many manufacturers being in the area and see if you can schedule a tour of their facilities, it's pretty neat to see how canopies and rigs are made.

We have a different rating system over here, so you might be out of luck trying to get your FS1. I would recommend seeing if you could take a canopy course from Ian Bobo or Shannon Pilchner while you are here. They are some of the best canopy flyers in the world and their class is very affordable. What you learn could save your life someday.

For accomodations, you can camp at the dz, the Holiday Inn gives skydiver rates and is only a few minutes away and there are also some bunkhouses owned by skydivers whom you might be able to rent a bed from. Ask Pine who to contact on that.

I'm sure you will find people at the dz who can recommend where to take your girl. Downtown DeLand has a few places and Daytona Beach, which is only a 20 minute drive away, has a lot of clubs.

If you have any bad weather days, go to the tunnel in Orlando and I'm sure your girlfriend would love to shop at the Outlet malls down there. A lot of Brits bring extra luggage with them because the prices are a steal for you all.

Thanks for all the advice though, it's great.. i think i'll take up the advice on the canopy handling course.
We're only going to florida for the weekend (4 days) b4 traverling back to the uk on the monday!!!
Kind of like a really expensive hop and pop.

A girl called lonzo or lindsey is trying to hook us up with accomidation. fingers crossed.
