greybeard 0 #1 May 8, 2007 The favorite yearly boogie for southwesterners was marred this year by 'mordida', to the point of almost cancelling out the weekend. The SDA owner and staff put the decision to the jumpers on hand as to whether to jump or go home. The result was one of the best boogies in the twenty five year history at Rocky Point. I am wondering about the after action reports from jumpers and family, and how SDA is responding. Any one hear anything yet? Bets, anything to report yet? skyjumpsteve 0 #3 May 10, 2007 Did someone have to get paid-off to allow the boogie to continue? http://www.mexicomatters.net/retirementmexico/04_bribeslamordidainmexico.php "LA MORDIDA", translation "the bite" is the term used for a bribe in this country. It is the traditional and customary way of getting things done. The bureaucrat who does your bidding takes a bite out of the cost of completing your objective. Mexican reformers are trying to change this condition with little success. It is so institutionalized that it could take decades before the situation changes appreciably. Bribing a cop, a judge or a permit agent is not the exclusive domain of Mexico. News stories about bribery scandals in the United States are not uncommon but in Mexico it is a way of life instead of an aberration in the system.
