Bones 0 #1 February 25, 2006 Boogie in Belize II, Feb 11-20th 2006, San Pedro, Ambergris Caye, Belize This was the second annual Boogie in Belize put on by Rich Grimm and Tsunami Skydivers. I’ve been down to Belize previously for the great scuba diving but this was my first time at the Boogie. There were approximately 120 registered participants mostly coming from the States but there was also a strong Canadian contingent, as well as jumpers from as far away as South Africa, Poland and Japan. Boogie goers were welcomed Saturday night with a great dinner at the Sunbreeze Hotel. The Sunbreeze is located across the street from the airport and served as manifest and base of operations for the week. This was made easier since we not only had every room booked for the Boogie but the Hotel staff went above and beyond all week long. We were completely weathered out on Sunday but the weather steadily improved throughout the week and most folks had no problem putting up their allotted 15 jumps, with some jumpers putting up more than 25. There were good vibes and good dives with several multi-point jumps as well as the new “Official Belizean Record” 20-way (no video but FAI judge Junebug WAS on the load). Additionally, around 200 locals and tourists went up on Tandem jumps. The jump into the Blue Hole was an adventure in itself. One of the three boats had to turn back due to mechanical difficulties. The other two boats made it out to the Blue Hole where there was a huge patch of blue sky directly above, but by the time the otter arrived there was a 2000 foot ceiling and about 8 jumpers made hop-n-pops. Given the boat trip over open ocean on the way to the Blue Hole the passengers ended up with more freefall time than the jumpers. Unfortunately, there was a fatality involving a wingsuit jump during the Boogie (well covered in other forums). There was also a skydiver’s wedding at the end of the week. I’ve included some pictures that I shot during the week. 1) San Pedro from the otter 2)Closeup of the landing area 3)Boat shuttle returning from the landing area 4)Manifest at the Sunbreeze Hotel 5)The beachfront outside the Sunbreeze
