DrewEckhardt 0 #1 February 15, 2006 I'm looking seriously about moving out there and began wondering about the weather Is it possible to skydive year-round in the pacific northwest? IOW, do clouds mean reduced altitude (hop-and-pops) or no skydiving?
superstu 0 #2 February 15, 2006 i started jumping at snohomish which is a little north of seattle, and the winters kinda suck. but that kind of goes for the NW in general not just the seattle area. i live in oregon now and we've had a ton of rain this year. however, i know a lot of the core jumpers and people of the DZ's both in Oregon and Washington and they are 2nd to none. you'll have a great new family up here if you decide to make it your home. send me a PM if you want to know more....stuSlip Stream Air Sports Do not go softly, do not go quietly, never back down
NWFlyer 2 #3 February 15, 2006 It rarely gets super-cold, but as Stu said, the weather is pretty iffy in the winter. Summers are second-to-none, though. Ridiculously long days, generally sunny, warm, not too hot. Snohomish (Cessnas year round, Caravan in the summer) and Blue Skies (Cessnas year round, I believe) are smaller DZs; Kapowsin (soon to be Shelton) has a twin Otter, and once they move to the new location in Shelton should be back up to full strength."There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. Amazon 7 #4 February 16, 2006 QuoteIs it possible to skydive year-round in the pacific northwest? IOW, do clouds mean reduced altitude (hop-and-pops) or no skydiving? We do jump year round.. very rarely in the winter is it too cold to jump. If the weahter clears( like this week) it does get cold but when its overcast its usually in the 40's to 50's during the day all winter long. Sometimes the overcast is high enough to get good altitude.. but yes.. hop and pops are more the norm from OCT to MARCH..but I have seen many days when that overcast was above full altitude but looks lower. Summers as Krissane says are SWEET realllly long days.. with the sunset load at like 9:15 PM... and the Lost Prairie Boogie in Montana is about a 10 hour drive( Too many canadians, the beer is warm and the skydives suck from the Skydive Arizona Otters and Skyvans and the weather is horribly hot with no clouds and temps of 80 to 90 with humidty around 50% and the water temperature in the lakes are only 70 to 75 degrees) is tolerable since it is our "local" boogie. Edited to add.....Redmond huh... would you be going to work for the "Evil Empire"
