ReLLiK75 0 #1 January 25, 2006 Is there anyone in the San Fran area who ground launches off the ridges around Fremont? I'd really like do this, but don't really have any experience ground launching. Is this something one can figure out easily and do without getting hurt while trying to inflate the canopy? I'm here working for 2 weeks and don't get off early enough to make it out to Byron, but my office is located about 3 miles away from some prime launch points so I would easily be able to make it over there and get some canopy flight in. __________________________________________ Have you Got Flare? ReLLiK75 0 #3 January 25, 2006 Actually, already have plans on Sat/Sun. Flying the fiancee out for a nice weekend in Napa. Things wouldn't go over very well if I told her we were substituting the original plan for a weekend of skydiving Which brings me back to my orignal problem of trying to ground launch off these awesome ridges around here but no clue how to do it or if I can just do it and not kill myself __________________________________________ Have you Got Flare? brianfry713 0 #4 January 25, 2006 I'm not one of them, but I think there are people who ground launch in Pacifica, Marina, and Hollister. I haven't heard anything about Fremont. I wouldn't recommend it though without any training and someone to show you around. I know some people have gotten hurt badly doing it. I've heard people say that you're more likely to get hurt doing it than skydiving or BASE jumping. There's some info about it here: http://www.bigairsportz.com/art-groundlaunch.php http://www.groundlaunchcenter.com/ I'd recommend to stick to jumping out of a plane and landing in big open fields until you know what you're doing if you don't want to get hurt. You could always just kite your canopy as well if you just want to play with it.BASE 1224, Senior Parachute Rigger, CPL ASEL IA, AGI, IGI USPA Coach & UPT Tandem Instructor, PRO, Altimaster Field Support Representative
monkycndo 0 #5 January 30, 2006 Contact the folks at Hollister. There is a hill right at the landing area that they ground launch from. They also use it to blade run sometimes.50 donations so far. Give it a try. You know you want to spank it Jump an Infinity
