Skydive Atlanta Giveback Weekend 9th-10th July

Recommended Posts

Hi all!

Just a reminder to all of you attending the Giveback Camp this weekend that we’ll be starting at 9am on Saturday and Sunday.

We’ll all be there Friday night getting ready for the weekend so feel free to come on our early and join us!!

Just a reminder of the format:
* The coach pays their own slot.
* Each jumper pays their own slot.
* The cost of the coaches pack job is divided amongst all the people in the group the coach is working with. For example, 1 on 1 coaching means the jumper pays 5, but a 5 way with the coach means each jumper pays 1 dollar. Basically we’re trying to keep any additional cost to jumpers down. The pack jobs are necessary so the coach has enough time to debrief the group and go up on a load with another group.
* Groups are going to be divided into tiers. Each tier will have different objectives and skill requirements. For example, Tier 1 will be one on one coaching. Tier 2 will be smaller (2-4 way) freefly dives (normally all in the same orientation). Tier 3 will be multi orientation, multi jumper dives.
* Each tier will have the same coach for the entire day. The next day the coaches will all rotate to a different tier.
* Whenever possible the coach will NOT be a part of the dive. The coaches objective on the dive is get debriefable video whenever possible.
* Event begins at 9am on Saturday and Sunday.
* Everybody is welcome, regardless of skill level.
* Bring your jumping shoes cause even if you're not on rotation with a coach for a load or two, we don't want ya sitting around - get up there and PRACTICE

As there are only 2 coaches available this weekend slots MAY be limited. Please let us know if you plan on attending and how many coach jumps you’d like to do.

See you there!

That's a really cool idea. Give my kudos to the coaches.

Thanks, but we (Travis, Tom and I) can't take credit for it. It's modelled after inspiration from 'bridge the gap' and some input on how best to structure the idea from Jon Pinyon (who also helps out on these weekends if need be).

Between all the training and competing this year we wanted to make sure that upcoming jumpers didn't slip under the radar and fade off into the distance. So we figured the best way to make sure they had something to look forward to was by making it an official 'event'. The first one went off great despite some weather issues, we expect this one to go off well and we have another in Sept (unfortunately I can't be at that one because of the CPC finals).

It's all about sharing the knowledge :)

Yup. My DZ runs 4-way weekends throughout the year, introducing newer jumpers to the fun of 4-way. The last one resulted in two-possibly-three new Intermediate teams that're going to Nationals :)
I'm thinking we might need to organise some canopy & freefly-specific weekends. I'll chat to folks & see what can be done...

On a tangent, there are DZs in Australia that run all-in-one camps. Ramblers (Learning Curve) & Nagambie (All-The-Basics) come to mind. We don't do those integrated camps here at Picton. What're your thoughts on all-in-one camps vs. discipline-specific camps? Assuming we're talking about folk with 200 jumps or less.

Personally I'd say encourage participants to attend them all, and feel free to add a word or two about the other disciplines, but I'd keep a focused discipline for the weekend.

Ian, I got a cute bikini to pack in for this weekend!!!

NICE!

Tom is a no-show this weekend (family stuff). Only Travis and I will be coaching. Normally Travis likes to pack for himself cause he's a little bitch :D
