lintern 1 #1 March 7, 2005 I am considering going to Skydive Deland in Florida around the last 2 weeks in June. I have never been to Florida before but I have always wanted to go. A few people I have spoke to have put me off though because they told me between June and October it is hurricane season. What is the risk of there being a hurricane during the last 2 weeks of June ? A small risk or a large risk ? Are some months more prone to hurricanes than others ? I remember the hurricanes last year were around the middle of September. Also, what is the weather like in June for jumping ? I've heard a few people say that skydiving tends to slow down during the summer because it gets too hot. Stacy 0 #2 March 7, 2005 June isn't too bad. Our heavy hurricane season is August-October. June will be a little warm, but noticeably humid. Usually in June we have afternoon showers around 4-5 PM that last about 30 mins then things brighten up a bit. just consider it a dinner break built in. With pretty much a daily rain shower, be careful if planning to camp.
skymama 37 #3 March 7, 2005 I'm sure the hurricane info is on a website somewhere, but I can't really remember any hitting us in the month of June. That's the very start of hurricane season and it actually goes through November. I think more have occured during the months of August and September. The weather in June will be hot and humid probably around 90 degrees. It's the best summer month. Some days will have an afternoon thunderstorm roll in and out around 2:00-4:00. They usually don't last very long and it's still jumpable after they leave. The dz's slow down not so much from the weather but from the northerners going back to their home dz's. We'll just go from 2-3 planes running at one time to 1-2. You won't have to worry about not being able to get a load up and it will still be on a turbine. Anything else? She is Da Man, and you better not mess with Da Man, because she will lay some keepdown on you faster than, well, really fast. ~Billvon

darkwing 5 #5 March 7, 2005 The month of June is considered the beginning of hurricane season, but there are very few storms in june. You shouldn't worry. -- Jeff My Skydiving History
AdamLanes 1 #6 March 7, 2005 Hurricanes usually pass through within a couple of days, so you'll still have plenty of time to get your jump on. The summer is considered the off season for jumping in Florida only because all the snowbirds go home to their own DZs, but there are still plenty of locals jumping all year long!
