Thanatos340 1 #1 July 12, 2004 Out of Atlanta, It looks like I have 4 Choices on airports to fly into for the WFFC... Midway, O’Hare, Bloomington or Champaign. All 4 cost basically the same. I know Champaign is the closest but I would have to change planes in Cincinnati with a two hour layover and the other 3 choices are nonstop. Which of the others would be best to fly into and easiest to get to Rantoul from?
Stacy 0 #2 July 12, 2004 Champaign is by far the easiest, unless you are renting a car. If you are renting a car, then go fo r non stop. There are shuttle vans and cabs from Champaign airport to the convention for around 20$ __
indyz 1 #3 July 12, 2004 O'Hare is about 140 miles away, Midway is 115, Bloomington is 60. Champaign is a little under 30 miles. How are you planning on getting to the convention? If you are hitching a ride, Champaign would probably be your best bet. O'Hare and Midway obviously have car rentals available, as does Champaign. I'm not sure about Bloomington. larsrulz 0 #4 July 12, 2004 Bloomington also has car rentals, but minimal as they are a small airport (much like Champaign). I reiterate much what the others said. Champaign is a lot closer. For those coming into midway or o'hare, and aren't/don't want to rent, Bluebird Charter Coach runs multi-daily trips down here from those two airports. If you reserve, they even stop at the Fanmarker Inn in Rantoul; those interested can call them up at 1-800-400-5500. Heck, they'll even drive you from the Champaign airport to Rantoul for $10. But I have a feeling there are numerous people who'll be giving rides...heck I'll pick-up/drop-off if someone needs. Btw, it'll take you 2.5 hours to get from Midway to Rantoul since you'll have to do a fair amount of city driving to get to the interstate. I got a strong urge to fly, but I got no where to fly to. -PF

Thanatos340 1 #6 July 12, 2004 Thanks for the info. I booked into Bloomington and got a good deal on a rental car there too. I Figured an extra 30 minute drive from Bloomington vs Changing planes in Cincinnati, a 2 hour layover and having to gate check my Rig on the second Plane to Champaign was an easy choice. Anyone else Flying into Bloomington on the evening of the 5th that needs a ride, PM me.

Quote I live about 4 blocks from Midway Airport and have made the trip to Rantoul about 6 times over the last two years. On average I can make it in just over an hour from home to check-in at WFFC (it's almost the same exact distance as Skydive Chicago is from my front door). There are plenty of rentals in the area outside of the ones at the airport. A good cheap one is about three blocks from the terminal called "Rent-A-Wreck" which rents out cars that are a bit more used but still in top shape...these rates tend to be a bit cheaper than others in that area. I've used all the rentals at Midway and by far I've had the best luck with Enterprise. Don't forget if you use Hertz to use the USPA discount. Champaign is really close - we went to dinner a couple times last year over there and made it in about 20 minutes. Don't forget - we get at least one bad rain storm every year that week. Bring rain gear!!_________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again..... Bloomington is actually a fairly large airport for the area it's in as it draws people from Peoria as well as Champaign etc. I'm flying into Chamapign with a combination of Comair and Atlantic Coast Airlines, both Delta Connection carriers. O'h I've had my MT sized Mirage rig in a Aero Tech gearbag on mostly all these airplanes and I can seperate the halves with my jumpsuit etc and it all fits under a seat or in the overheads. The smallest plane I had my rig onboard is a Saab340 again with no problems. This time though I have the first row of seats on both the CRJ and the FRJ so I'll have to improvise a bit. Have fun in Rantoul Chris
 WFFC 1 #9 July 13, 2004 If you're looking to have less airport travel time and renting a car, try bloomington (BMI). If you're not renting a car, champaign (CMI) is your best bet. BMI to Rantoul is about 45 minutes (or less) if you drive like me. ----- ~~~Michael
 ChangoLanzao 0 #10 July 13, 2004 I live five miles from the Champaign airport and have done the Ohare, Midway, Bloomington, and Champaign things many times over the years. I've had my connecting flights to/from Champaign cancelled/delayed so many times that I never use that airport anymore. That's not to say that it isn't ok most of the time, but I prefer Bloomington or Midway. Ohare is a major hassle. Bloomington has free parking. All things considered, my choice is usually Midway. Midway has lots of direct flights, is smaller than Ohare, so it's much easier to get around. I'd much rather spend an hour driving from Midway to Rantoul than to spend an hour wondering if my connecting flight to Champaign is going to go - it's happened to me too many times. Anyway, have a good trip, and remember to stop by and visit us in Paxton, IL - Illinois Skydiving Center - we're only ten minutes north of Rantoul on Illinois 9 and I-57. We'll have a Beech-18 Turbine there from July 31 through the start of the WFFC, so if you happen to get here a coupla days early come do some jumps!
