Petaluma Airport possible for a Skydive center?

Recommended Posts

In Petaluma, CA there is a multi-airport that looks like a great place to skydive if anyone heard of it.

If i was a instructor, I will start a DZ there.

Its like a 40 min. drive from San Fransisco and a 30 min. drive to Santa Rosa Skydive at Sonoma Airport.

If anyone is close to there, do you think so?;)

What would be gained? Does North County need another DZ in addition to Santa Rosa and Cloversale nearby, Davis and Byron to the near East, Hollister and Monterey to the further south, and Lodi in the Valley?

One in Petaluma would be fighting with Santa Rosa for the same business, I'd think. Unless it would offer something the other lacks, a zero sum game doesn't benefit us.

There used to be a drop zone there. I jumped at it. It's now moved to Cloverdale.

You couldn't actually land there though. The airport would not grant permission for that. You took off there and landed on property about 5 miles from the runways, then got a van back. Petaluma itself is just too busy of a commercial airport to sustain a viable drop zone. I'ver jumped at places that busy that try to do that, and it just is never very succesful in the long run.

Tha Bay Area is more than well served with dropzones though. There really isn't any need for more.
