Fortinbras 0 #1 June 28, 2004 I'm a student at Great Lakes Skydivers, but I'm moving to Philadelphia, PA in September. By then, I expect to have my A license (assuming I learn to track without spiraling out of control). I would like to know if there are any good drop zones in the area; I'm particularly interested in ones suited to inexperienced skydivers.
Stacy 0 #2 June 28, 2004 You're in major luck. Cross Keys is about 30 mins from Central Philly. All turbines (otter, skyvan, etc), chopper, biplane, awesome facilities, square3 on the DZ which has some nice demo programs. Skydive U, a freefly school, and I believe Heath does canopy coaching by request. free camping there, but an easy drive from Philly. __

Well, most DZs are helpful when it comes to the lower-experienced jumpers. If you are going to be center-city then Crosskeys is the best bet.
chutingstar 1 #4 June 28, 2004 You may also try a new drop zone in the area in Perkasie, PA...Skydive Pennridge. They currently rotate between a Cessna 205, Super Twin Otter, Porter and King Air. The web site is http://www.skydivepennridge.com MikeChutingStar.com
Fortinbras 0 #5 June 30, 2004 Thanks to all for your suggestions. I'll likely give both DZs a try.
bendywendy 0 #6 June 30, 2004 Crosskeys is the way to go in the Philly area - hands down!! They've got it all just make sure you go home or stay out of the way if things start to go too crazy at night. I would think that things are settling down a bit, though - or at least I hope so.
