bluewaterstream 0 #1 June 22, 2004 I'm heading out to LA for the weekend to visit a friend of mine and I'm planning on getting a few jumps in. I'll probably only do 2 or 3 jumps and my buddy is going to do a tandem jump. Anyway, I've heard great things about both Perris Valley Skydiving and Skydive Elsinore, which do you think would be a better choice? ~ John
skyyhi 0 #2 June 22, 2004 Wow, you are asking a loaded question. Most people here are very loyal to either one or the other. You are likely to get several different opinions. It really depends on the jumps you want to do. Perris is a large dropzone with quite a few amenities. Because it is so big it is difficult to get to know people very well. That being said, there is always someone around willing to show you the ropes. Elsinore (my personal favorite) is large but much more layed back. It will be quite busy there this weekend as they have the annual poker run (a 6-way handicapped meet) and on Sunday they have ExCel Basic Camp (an RW camp for newer skydivers). There are great Tandem Masters at both DZ's and you should have no issues getting on loads at either place. Just depends on what you want to do. . .________________________________________ Take risks not to escape life… but to prevent life from escaping. ~ A bumper sticker at the DZ FGF #6 Darcy
Orchid 0 #3 June 23, 2004 Although the two dropzones are pretty close to each other...you could choose to spend some time with each dropzone that way...you could have an idea of which dropzone you like best for the next visit. My personal choice is Skydive Elsinore...the people there are great/friendly...you'll find that Skydive Elsinore is the friendliest dropzone."Love is doing small things with great love." grega 0 #4 June 23, 2004 I heard they have totaly different surroundings (one is almost dessert the other is green.) Is that true?"George just lucky i guess!"
D22369 0 #5 June 23, 2004 Elsinore people rock! hands down they are the people I would rather jump with, friendly with a low attitude quotient. But they are so close you can try them bothRoyThey say I suffer from insanity.... But I actually enjoy it.
falxori 0 #6 June 23, 2004 had the same dilema last april... we were heading to perris but ended up in elsinore... planned to split our jumps between the two, but ended up in elsinore... planned one day in perris to check out the skyvan, but ended up in elsinore again... (skyvan was grounded) so i'm sure perris is great (people seemed nice) but elsinore (and its people) rocks! so thats my choice... O "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero." jrpayne 0 #7 June 23, 2004 My friends and I were really disappointed with vibe at Elsinore. I think the girl working manifest when we were there was probably the rudest I have ever seen. Great scenery otherwise. Perris rocked great FF load orginizing. I will go straight to Perris next time.
VanillaSkyGirl 6 #8 June 23, 2004 I would have to say that I jump at both Perris and Elsinore regularly. Although I jumped first at Perris after my home DZ closed down...I would have to recommend Elsinore for the beautiful scenery and the friendliest vibe. For a new person, like you, intending to jump just a few times, Elsinore will have a more welcoming atmosphere, but you should also seriously consider booking some tunnel time at Perris (perhaps at night after jumping in the day). Perris also has a nice amenities, but Elsinore feels more like a family. The two DZs are 20 minutes apart, so you don't need to worry about it being a hassle. QuoteMy friends and I were really disappointed with vibe at Elsinore. When was this (what month this year and what time of week)? I must say that is an quite unusual opinion of ELSINORE. Everyone is so nice and inclusive there... QuoteI think the girl working manifest when we were there was probably the rudest I have ever seen. Do you remember her name, or what she looked like? I am confused as hell..., Kat is the kindest manifest lady...
SkydiveNFlorida 0 #9 June 23, 2004 Personally, as a visitor, both dzs were nice, but if I had to choose one it'd probably be Elsinore. The people were friendly at both dzs, and I had a great time at both, but it was much more personal an atmosphere at Elsinore and think that rocks! I finished up my C license requirements there with Mark who was the absolute coolest guy. And, at the end of the day, there was a small group of employees and visitors who were very cool to chill with. There was really no feeling of exclusion, very cool place!! But, if you want a swimming pool (for whatever reason?), Perris has that and a large restaurant/bar area. I would compare Perris/Elsinore to Deland and Pahokee (when it is opened). Pahokee just has a vibe that is hard to find elsewhere and it will always be my favorite dz. But, Deland is a mecca and there is something to be said for that as well. It is all in what you're looking for. Angela .

bluewaterstream 0 #12 June 29, 2004 So, I ended up going to Elsinore and that by far is the coolest DZ that I've ever been to. No shit, I wouldn't mind moving out there for a year or so just so that I could jump there regularly. Incredibly friendly atmosphere, great landing areas, good looking women all over the place, and good vibes everywhere. No doubt, my next trip to LA will be strictly a skydiving trip so that I can get more jumps in at Elsinore.
skyyhi 0 #13 June 29, 2004 John, glad you enjoyed the dropzone. It's sure a lot of fun. . .________________________________________ Take risks not to escape life… but to prevent life from escaping. ~ A bumper sticker at the DZ FGF #6 Darcy
