Alaska's summer solstice boogie

Recommended Posts

I saw 70's to mid 50's but LONG ASS DAYS for jumping. Hotels are not easy to find right now and if it is 50 at night - not sure I'd want to camp. I am looking at airfare just for the heck of it although my boyfriend has a swoop comp locally at the same time.....but I'm not a swooper ;)

Made a jump with a guy from Alaska around April of last year in Sebastian - it was my 4 way requirement for my A or was it B [:/] and he forgot to let go at breakoff and sunk me down to 4K which at THAT time was LOW :P

Dreams become reality, one choice at a time...

Mid 70's during the day and mid to low 50's at night. I tend to acclimate pretty quickly so I don't notice the cold. They have a large bonfire each night that will keep you plenty warm. The attendance last year was around 200 IIRC.

NIGHT... what NIGHT....the sun does set but it never gets dark then..twilight mebbe... sheesh its Solstice.. in the Land of the Midnight Sun.

But to get the Sun never sets effect you have to go a little farther north.. up past Fairbanks.. and to 66 degrees North Latitude.. then its trippy to watch the sun start to approach the horizon in the NORTH.. but never goes below it.. then starts swinging around to the EAST and then.. back up...mucho fun to watch all the nocturnal critters.. when there is no nocturn for them to take cover in:)

Bring a long sleeve shirt and light jacket for the evenings. For a hotel look in Wasilla not Anchorage or you could even try Palmer. Tenting it is not really that bad. They have showers with lots of hot water and good water pressure. Breakfast each morning is either pancakes or french toast made by Stan and Barb. The Boys and Girls club usually have a snack stand and we would not be part of the northwest with out having access to good coffee. The coffee lady usually sets up a booth on the DZ.

We will try for the Chick's record, their will be midnight jumps, glacier jumps, freefly coaching, RW coaching, Canopy coaching. Good fun all around.
Keith, sorry to hear that you will not be coming up this year. :(

I am working here in AZ for Bill and Carol at Skydive Sedona - Alaska's sister dropzone and leave to go home on the 14 and will be in AK until the 21st. YEA!
