What type of chute

Recommended Posts

Bulidings? Those are'nt jumpable. Anyone that told you that needs thair head examined.

Head out to a Dropzone and ask if you can jump a building and watch the people laugh.

Seriously... go to a Dropzone and talk to a jumpmaster about this type of question. The internet is not the place to be discussing things that can so easly be misinterpeted by people that do not know all the details about your question.

I don't know if you just want to know about it, or if you want information so you can do it. It's obvious that you don't have any skydiving experience, which is a must.

It is incredibly dangerous to BASE (Building-Antennae-Span[bridges]-Earth[cliffs]) jump without considerable skydiving experience. This is true for several reasons; You have no clue what your instincts are going to tell you when you do your first BASE jump. You could black out, you could just freeze up, who knows. You don't know how well your jump position will be.

There are so many variables involved. Absolutly learn to skydive first. And get very good at it. Then consider BASE when you and people you know, believe that you have enough experience.

Now, as far as the parachute goes, it would do you well to research "Ram-Air Canopies" which are the parachutes used by Skydivers and BASE'ers alike.

buildings i think it called a throw chute

I think you meant Pilot Chute??? In lamens terms, that is a very small parachute that is thrown by a jumper, when it catches air, it pulles on a strap (bridle) that is connected the middle of the center cell of the parachute. It's basic purpose is only to pull the parachute out of the container and assist with inflation.

BASE parachutes are very similar/nearly identical at a glance, to skydiving parachutes. The main differences are a missing or mesh slider (research Ram-Air canopies), they generally don't have reserves (back up chute), they generally use larger Pilot Chutes since you are not moving as fast when you open as you are if you are skydiving and a larger Pilot Chute catches more air to allow for a quicker deployment. They may even have mesh/breathable bottom skins so that they will inflate quicker.

I am a mere newbie in the sport of skydiving and am only providing my tiny accumulated knowlege of BASE, which is probably not entirely accurate and definately not complete. If you are researching because you want to BASE jump, you need to become an avid skydiver first.
