Squeak 17 #1 December 24, 2002 I am getting a Javelin sent to me for inspection (see pic) If I decide to buy it, I was considering the following canopy and suit colours. What do you think. The colours are in line with the container (which i can't change). You are not now, nor will you ever be, good enough to not die in this sport (Sparky) My Life ROCKS! How's yours doing? JJohnson 0 #2 December 24, 2002 Butt ugly!!! I wouldn't wear it to a dog fight.......But I'm partial to neon green and pink....so I could be wrong. Looks good. JJJJ "Call me Darth Balls"
Squeak 17 #3 December 24, 2002 My personal preferance would be neon yellow and fire engine red, but I cant afford a new container You are not now, nor will you ever be, good enough to not die in this sport (Sparky) My Life ROCKS! PhreeZone 20 #4 December 24, 2002 Don't order the canopy new... find a used one. Also look for used jumpsuits. And don't bother with the freefly for a while, learn some RW before rushing into things.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
Squeak 17 #5 December 24, 2002 I wasn't planning on freefly at the moment, I'm just starting my B rels and plan on playing in rel for awhile. As for 2nd hand, there not that common here in Western Australia and new is only about $200AUD. As for a 2nd hand canopy, There aren't that many in the size I want and I can get a new one from PISA for less than my DZ is selling a dmo model. You are not now, nor will you ever be, good enough to not die in this sport (Sparky) My Life ROCKS! PhreeZone 20 #6 December 24, 2002 Also look at resale value on your first canopy. Can you sell the local gear faster and easier then the other gear when you want new stuff? A new Sabre2 goes for about 1500, at about 400 jumps its worth about 1000. Its lost 33% of its value but you can sell them at any DZ in the world with out question. A Hornet is about 700 and at 400 jumps its hard telling what the market is, I've seen them from 400-500 which is still about a 30-40% loss. But at some places it will take months to get rid of non local gear.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com

I'd still order PD though. Home DZ: WA Skydiving Acadamy, Pinjarra (South of Perth)My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... arlo 0 #8 December 24, 2002 just outta curiosity, why are you ordering a hornet (intermediate to high performance canopy) instead of a skymaster or an equivalent 'starter' canopy (since you're ordering a Pisa)? If you only have 14 jumps, don't ya think that may be moving just a tad bit fast? just looking out for your safety, that's all. :) blues, arlop.s. i think blue and black go great together, but regarding jumpsuits, solid colors are most popular at the biggies here in FL...with accentuating grippers (ex. black jumpsuit w/ blue grippers). PhreeZone 20 #9 December 24, 2002 Pisa is South African, still an imported canopy for Australia. I think PD and Icarus are the only companies that you could sell the gear at DZ's everywhere and people know what they are. Pisa main canopies are unjumped at a lot of DZ's while Tempos are widely used for their low price.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
falxori 0 #10 December 24, 2002 since you've asked about the colors, i won't get into the buy new/used debate... black/blue is a nice base combo, but i think it will look much better if you add another color for contrast ,(something bright and shiney...) almost anything will look great with the black, just see what looks good with the blue. its a matter of personal taste. good luck O "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero." narcimund 0 #11 December 24, 2002 Personally, I find this pervasive black and blue motif to be hideous. BORING! It's everywhere on everyone in every DZ. Why? It's not like it's a branding issue -- any company that picked corporate colors would do it so much better. Why are you people buying all this black and blue equipment??? More imagination, people! Squeak 17 #12 December 24, 2002 because the container is already that colour. Squeak 17 #13 December 24, 2002 Quote I agree but Squeaks from Australia. I'd still order PD though So would I if I had $3000AUD spare to spend. The Hornet will cost about $1800AUD, I plan on keeping it for a couple of years, at least, so resale is not of primary concern. What I'm after is a decent rig at a decent price, and one that don't look like complete crap. If I had unlimited funds I'd buy something else all togehter. You are not now, nor will you ever be, good enough to not die in this sport (Sparky) My Life ROCKS! How's yours doing? JYorkster 0 #14 December 24, 2002 I like the blue/black, but you may want to go with more blue on the canopy than black. After you get a few jumps on the canopy and the colors start to 'fade' a bit, the color change will be much more evident on the black. I'd personally go with mostly blue with a few black lines/accents. I also think you've made a good choice with the Hornet. Good performance for the price. What size did you end up choosing? Enjoy all the new gear! Rock

Please don't get too ahead of yourself with High performance canopies especially just to save some Dollars. Good luckMy grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... billvon 3,111 #16 December 24, 2002 >Why are you people buying all this black and blue equipment??? No kidding. And on the 300-way? I was in the middle of the blue sector, and I was supposed to be able to tell people apart. Everyone had blue jumpsuits. Helmet color, you say? They gave us matching full face helmets, all the same color. Rigs? EVERYONE in my sector had a black Javelin. I was reduced to looking for gripper colors and reserve pilot chute trim color while approaching this thing at 40mph. Why couldn't just one person in my sector have had a yellow racer or something? skybytch 273 #17 December 24, 2002 QuoteWhy couldn't just one person in my sector have had a yellow racer or something? That's part of the reason I used bright blue and silver on my current container instead of black with bright blue trim like my last one. I had more than one person who docked after me at JFTC comment on how much they liked my color choice; I guess I was really easy to see even in that sea of pink. If your canopy blends into the surrounding terrain, and someone can't see you cause you blend in...... well, the outcome might be not so good.
falxori 0 #19 December 24, 2002 i really dont like the all (or most) black containers. i'm hardly the neon type the walks around with a gear that is shouting " hey look at me i glow in the dark !" i'm more of a purple/silver guy sorry , dont have a pic of my canopy yet, but it matches again , if you have that container, have on your canopy (a little of) these colors so it will match but add something different too , so it wont look boring. Scoby 0 #20 December 24, 2002 I know you were asking a lot of questions about canopy size. What size did you decide to get, out of curiosity? I'm about your size and I just took delivery of a Hornet 170. I'm going to jump it this weekend (beer!), so I can report on it then. I don't think you need to stick to the colors on the container. Silver and white, for example, will complement the black and blue on the container. They will also make you a lot more visible. The major downside is that white will show dirt. It wouldn't hurt to make your design a bit brighter for visibility and to find in case of a cutaway.
Squeak 17 #21 December 25, 2002 I'll probably go with the 170 aswell, even though everyone says go the 150 (at my DZ). I don't really see myself downsizing for a couple of years. and there are so few 170 or 150 on the 2nd hand market it should not be too hard to sell later. You are not now, nor will you ever be, good enough to not die in this sport (Sparky) My Life ROCKS!
