Thanks, JT.

I was thinking of putting this in Talk Back, but it is Skydiving related. I just read JT's article in Parachutist, and I think it is way cool. As you can see by my profile, I'm an unlicensed rookie (thanks in part to the shitty PA weather of late) - and I make safety my first priority every skydive. I don't see this being an issue, as my DZ is extremely cool - but I sure hope experienced folks (besides my friends) won't hesitate to jump with me once I'm cleared and beered on my "A" license. It's good to know - even though he's a nut - that people are thinking of us rookies, and are willing to help us have fun, learn skills, and be safe.

P.S. This site is truly appreciated by fellers like me.

JUMP WITH LOW TIMERS! (USPA titles the letters)

I have recently Moved back to the U.S. after being stationed overseas for a year, and I have noticed a strange trend with some of the newer skydivers I meet. I have only 150 jumps. Being new to my DZ, I jump with whomever wants to go-freefly, RW, it doesn't matter.
I have noticed that most of the lower-time jumpers have their logbooks filled with their own signatures. It makes me wonder where all the mentors are. I know there are plenty of great skydivers out there, and I would like to think this is only a small portion of jumpers who are doing this.
I would love it if every safety-minded skydiver out there would jump with some of the low timers. I am, by no means, a PRO, but if I can offer some advice or just have fun I will. You don't have to be a god to jump with someone, just safe enough to plan a dive and land safely.
when I first jumped with a newer jumper that I didn't know, I was a little nervous (not knowing his ability), but Now I see that I can learn as much from them as they can from me. I challenge everyone to get involved with the newer jumpers, as well as the older jumpers. you will have some great experiences and make some good friends.
Most newer jumpers are working towards Licenses. so if you see someone jumping alone ask them to join you on a 2-way or small way. the experience they receive will be unobtainable without you!

Hi Dave,

I started at United (up to level 12), and have one jump in at Above the Poconos Skydivers in Hazleton. I went from a Manta 288, (ripcord) to a Sabre 230 (BOC) - SWEET. The folks up there are very professional and friendly, and the student gear is in great shape. I'm even getting packing instruction from a rigger, instead of "picking it up on my own". All we need is some cooperation from the weather. . . . . . . . . . .
