USPA Elections

Recommended Posts

First off, Congrats!

Since I'm not in the Southeast region, I'll admit that I don't know much about you...what was the platform that you ran on? What committees are you interested in? What will be your main focus (foci) during the term?

You probably posted it somewhere, if so, just steer me in the right direction. Thanks!

Congrats on your success in the election.

Let me hear from you about issues you may have with the USPA.

See the museum thread in this same forum. Let the USPA manage skydiving in the US, find someone else to get skydiving into the museum business.

You're welcome, Richard.:)
I would like to push for more canopy instruction during the student progression. There's just so much to learn and it's all so overwhelming at first. I know I could have benefitted from another, more advanced class on canopy control. Heck, I took at class at 200 jumps and benefitted from it! Maybe it could be something that could be a requirement at the 25th jump before getting signed off for the A? I know a lot of people will be against having more rules and regulations. But I also think that if we can reduce the number of injuries that low-timers have, then not only might we not have as many injured friends, but it will be better for the reputation of the sport.

One thing that's being discussed a lot is rigs (with Cypres) on airlines. Check out the following thread:

http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?do=post_view_flat;post=328085;page=1;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;mh=25;

Seems to be a growing concern especially now with the new regulations taking effect.

As someone who flies with my rig twice a month for team training, I'm especially concerned about this.

I have a problem with the way Collegiate Nationals are run. The University of Florida has a strong skydiving club, but we were unable to compete for the following reasons:

1. I couldn't find out how much the registration/competition fees were before late October. Large universities like ours demand that we outline any travel budget well in advance. A month and a half planning time was not enough.
2. Fees are too expensive. Fewer and fewer students are competing due to rising fees. How many other skydiving events can cost a novice competitor $120?
3. Rules are not well defined, specifically for the 2-way event. In the current competition manual the fact that there is only one class for this event and that this event is limited to those with fewer than 100 jumps is not mentioned.

I do agree with the idea of canopy control being a larger focus for receiving an A license. I also think that perhaps doing an intentional cutaway could be helpful as well. I know that I am rather nervous about having my first major malfunction.

Maybe we (our club) will see you the next time we head down to DeLand.:)
