Adam Walsh, Lifted Entertainment, demonstrates how the Vertical Wind Tunnel works. The wind tunnel will be at Skydive Arizona's parking lot through the start of March.
At least through March people can experience the thrill of skydiving without ever stepping out of an airplane at the Eloy Municipal Airport.
Lifted Entertainment's portable vertical wind tunnel, set up on the south end of the Skydive Arizona parking lot, simulates the sensation of freefalling, by the help of a propellor, that is part of the skydiving effect, said Adam Walsh, Lifted Entertainment.

The propellor used is a Hamilton Standard DC3 propellor powered by 16 cylinder Detroit diesel engine. The propellor moves at 600 miles per hour, but the wind speed is between 135 and 140 miles per hour.

The unit can be used for training, Walsh said, as well as enjoyment. For the experience skydiver it can be used to fine hone their skill.

It is also great for beginners, because they can try things in the wind tunnel that they would not try in the air, he said.

Walsh said that this is the only portable wind tunnel in the United States and that the tunnel is available for different events. In the last four years they have been setting up at different colleges and universities and recently have been at the Fiesta Bowl and will be heading to the Super Bowl.

The company is based out of Chicago, but they are looking to making Eloy the home base for the wind tunnel, Walsh said. Currently they are allowed to be there till the beginning of March, although they will be gone on a few days for scheduled events.

Walsh said that this is not an experience only for skydivers and are open to the public. Any wishing to participate must be 18 years old or must have parental release.

Walsh said that they guarantee the thrill of freefall with the safety of landing.
