fool 0 #1 February 2, 2003 OK, here's the deal. I currently don't have a main canopy, so I'm looking for one. I have a couple options, but I can't decide which way to go. I could get what I really want (Samurai 120, but the price is fairly high. I could get something similar for about half the cost (Jedei 120), or for a couple hundred more than the latter, I could get brand new in a chute I'm not really sure on the performance of (heatwave 120)....in all likelyhood this will be a transitional canopy for me, and with the amount of jumping I plan on doing this year, will probably be done with it after a season or so....HELP. edit to add: The Samurai is the only one of them that I have, or will have the ability to demo, due to the fact that I'm canadian, and can't really get gear sent up here for demos. This being said, any input on the performance in comparison to the Samurai would be helpful S.E.X. party #1 "Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting "f*#k, what a ride". PhreeZone 20 #2 February 2, 2003 I'd first replace that round reserve before getting a new main. That round will limit the places you can jump in some cases. I do question the reason you are swaping to a fully elliptical canopy at under 150 jumps...Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
fool 0 #3 February 2, 2003 I've received coaching from a pilot, with very much experience, and under his guidance have been learning performance landings. For the last part of the season I was using his main to do so. I am switching DZ's, and obviously can't take it with me, so I need to get my own S.E.X. party #1 "Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting "f*#k, what a ride". TomAiello 26 #4 February 2, 2003 QuoteI'd first replace that round reserve...What he said. Have you ever tried to land a Phantom?I've got around 50 phantom jumps, and I'd not want to try to land one on solid ground--especially not if there were any obstructions.-- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
fool 0 #5 February 2, 2003 yep, landed one due to a reserve on student gear two seasons ago, and have military jumps as well. edit to add: I am planning on also getting a square reserve when I get a new container. I know what the landings under them are like...they pretty much suck, but I have made them before, will in all likelyhood make them again, and so it is not a major concern for me at this point in time. I should also note that my exit weight is around the 130 mark, so really, a bugger of a landing under a round for most, is only slightly uncomfortable for me. The beauty of gravity...it doesn't affect some of us as quickly as others (proven whilst floating above the fatties on a formation load ) S.E.X. party #1 "Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting "f*#k, what a ride".
