Squeak 17 #1 February 16, 2003 Well I finally got off student gear Afetr fail to convince the DZSO to allow me to use his unused canopy until my Hornet arrives, I borrowed a friends Electra 170. The DZSO refused to allow me to use her Reverse PDF risers on my Javelin, so we undid the slinks and changed the canopy over to my risers, then we did a continuity check on the lines, packed the canopy and as we were about to place it in the container, the DZSO came over and said we can't use the PDF slinks on my risers. I'm practicing patience and tolerance by this time. So we undo the slinks again and use some Rapid links complete the pack job and get ready to jump. Clouds move in and we're grounded. OK HOP n POP time, crap I cant go cause conversions start at 4 jump @ 10000 so I sit down agin. The boys and girls come in from the HOP n POP and state that the cloud is not a problem there is plenty of height above the lower scattered cloud. So up we go. At this point let me state "I'm shitting myself", 10 000 feet and out i go, man this feels different, no big weight pushing on my back, I can barely feel the rig. I go through the practice pulls 5 or 6 times dump at 5000 and the opening is sooo different to anything i have jumped before, smooth and soft and onheading. Unstow the toggles and do my drills, very responsive, find the stall point, wow it's a lot higher than b4. Brake turns, flare, rear riser turns, flare again. You loose a lot more height than I expected in a turn. Do a couple of 360s, 1000 feet, Ok set up time. Down wind, 500 feet cross wind, 250 feet into wind, steady it up full glide square appoach, bring the toggles down to shoulder, slowing down, a little lower flaring now, straight it up a bit, TOUCH DOWN, soft walk off. MY LIFE ROCKS. That was soo much fun. Let' do it again,,, nope winds at 25 knots, clouds rolling in. Everyone pack up and go home. Roll on next weekYou are not now, nor will you ever be, good enough to not die in this sport (Sparky) My Life ROCKS! How's yours doing?
wmw999 2,584 #2 February 16, 2003 Sounds like a really good day. Congrats! Wendy W.There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. (tbrown)

masher 1 #4 February 17, 2003 It's good getting off student gear isn't it? I'm up to 10 jumps now, off student gear. Everything happens quickly. It turns when you ask it to, You have to be more careful on the landings, and I actually get some penetration into wind!-- Arching is overrated - Marlies
