That's why Chambersburg Skydiving Center is joining the United States Parachute Association to conduct USPA Safety Day here on Saturday, March 8.USPA began promoting its national Safety Day in 1997. On the second Saturday of each March, rain or shine, skydivers of all experience levels from all around the U.S. come to their local skydiving centers for a day of hands-on seminars. Topics include safety and emergency procedures for the aircraft flight, the freefall, and the parachute descent, including practical training review sessions.Chambersburg Skydiving Center will conduct this year's USPA Safety Day activities under the leadership of Kathie Shepherd, a U.S. Parachute Association Safety & Training Advisor, and J. R. Sides, Jr., Randy Schroeder, Matt Nolt, Bill Culver, Bill Hanrahan, Bob Mehl and Mike Self who teach skydiving at the school. Activities are scheduled throughout the day beginning at 10 at Chambersburg Municipal Airport, 3506 Airport Road, Chambersburg, PA.FAA-rated parachute riggers J. R. Sides and Bill Culver will conduct equipment inspection and review any updates that have occurred in the last year. Pilots Bob Mehl and Ron Price, who fly the skydivers at Chambersburg Skydiving Center, will lead the discussions on routine and emergency aircraft procedures. Chambersburg Skydiving Center management will review laws concerning skydiving and local skydiving center policies and procedures.USPA believes that providing the opportunity for jumpers to attend review seminars on safety procedures reduces the risks of skydiving for its participants, most of whom are among USPA's 35,000 members. "USPA Safety Day has become a vital part of each individual skydiver's approach to safety in the sport. It's also an important component of a skydiving center's risk management program," said Christopher J. Needels, Executive Director for USPA. "The Association is making an all-out effort this year to encourage all drop zones to conduct Safety Day activities and for all skydivers to participate."Chambersburg Skydiving Center is a Group Member of the U.S. Parachute Association, one of more than 200 in the country. As a Group Member, Chambersburg Skydiving Center has pledged to follow the Basic Safety Requirements of the organization. USPA expects all its Group Members to conduct Safety Day.For more information about Chambersburg Skydiving Center contact J.R.
