spencer 0 #1 March 15, 2003 What are the best and safest tandem rigs and how much do they cost??.
slotperfect 7 #2 March 15, 2003 You'll get lots of opinions, as we skydivers are highly opinionated. For my vote, the Sigma, made by Relative Workshop is the safest rig on the market. The design reduces the number of possible malfunctions, both the tandem rig and student harnesses are incredibly comfortable, and it's very easy to pack. I am also VERY endeared to the Sigma Tandem canopies (370 and 395) made by Performance Designs for Relative Workshop. Bill Booth, owner of The Uninsured Relative Workshop, is a member of these forums. I have jumped: Sigma Tandem with Sigma 370 and Sigma 395 Mains Tandem Vector II with PD421, EZ384, EZ425 Mains Strong Dual Hawk with SET-400 and Master 425 Mains Hope that helps! slotperfect 7 #3 March 15, 2003 Copied/pasted from the Relative Workshop website: SIGMA w/ 360 reserve & SIGMA 370 main: $10183.50Arrive Safely John
SkymonkeyONE 4 #4 March 16, 2003 I second John's vote for the Sigma (and the Sigma 370 main). I would never consider a tandem harness and container other than a Sigma at this point, but I must admit that I do like several other mains. Chuck
slotperfect 7 #5 March 16, 2003 Quotebut I must admit that I do like several other mains Everyone I have talked to that have jumped the Icarus Tandem Canopies have spoken very highly of them. I would like to jump one myself. I know they make a 330, which is a bit small for me (insert big head jokes here), a 365, and a 400. I talked to one Tandem Master (Navy Seal, former Leap Frog, and current MFF Instructor) who jumps an Icarus 330 in Arizona, and he raves about it, especially the light toggle pressure. Anyone here have any experience with these canopies??Arrive Safely John
SkymonkeyONE 4 #6 March 16, 2003 That was one of the canopies I was talking about. Pete Markow has one in his Eclipse and we had two in our Eclipses on the USASOC team. The only thing I didn't care much for on the Icarus was the fact that it opens in full flight. The Cobalt tandem opens and flies awesome with similar, very-light toggle pressure. The Hop 330's have proven to be outstanding, small Tandem mains also. Chuck
riggerrob 643 #7 March 17, 2003 I have jumper: Vector I (pre-drogue) with High-Lifter and PD 360 Vector II with PD 421 and EZ384 Vecbeckers with Parachutes de France 400 Racer with Jump Shack 400 and 500 Strong with Master 425, Master 520 and SET 400. Our school has standardized on Strong Tandems, but if I were spending the US$10,000 to purchase a new rig, the only container I would pay for is a Sigma. nightjumps 1 #8 March 19, 2003 I jump an Icarus 365 in my Eclipse system and LOVE it. FYI: 1. I got an email from Simon yesterday (when inquiring about a 330) that all the Icarus Tandems will be rated at 500# in the next couple of weeks. 2. With the exemption being lifted, I "believe" you can put an Icarus Tandem in the Sigma as long as you use the PD Reserve. Talk with Marc Procos at RWS about this first, I may be wrong. ...Bigun
