I am going to be jumping this afternoon to help a fellow jumper get his S/L jumpmaster rating by making a S/L jump....I was wanting some suggestions on something funny that I could do to mess with him....Suggestions appreciated

flip thru the risers, that'll fuck em up. you too, maybe. :S

in all seriousness, climb out early, and keep trying to climb out if he stops you the first time. try climbing back in. wrap your arms around the strut instead of hanging by it. swim or go fetal instead of arch. hang there until you can't hang anymore(freeze in other words). put your alti on upside down. the list goes on and on.

When he yells "go" yell "huh?" Repeat. This one is the most fun.

If you're supposed to hang by the strut, fall off. Or leave a foot on the step, and then fall off when he removes it.

Do a hard right turn right off the strut.

Freeze halfway out the door.

Most of these won't work if it's not a Cessna with a strut, obviously... It's hard to mess up the exit when the JM picks up your rig and slings you out the door.

You can de-arch, and shoot him the finger.

Or you can really gross him out and give him a big sloppy kiss as you go out the door.

Cut away immediately and get some sweet freefall. Keep saying "Just a moment!" with increasing panic when it's your turn. Ask him to push you out. Hyperventilate on the way up. Make flapping motions with your arms as you jump. Ask your friend to hold your hand. Keep your eyes shut the whole time. And I'm sure that's not the end of the list.

I like doing S/L jumps.

At my DZ, before we send up any new students, we do a canopy control demonstration, showing the newbies what's going to happen once they're in the air. I've done a couple of these. You just let go, arch and wait.

It's fun.

I like the control feeling of knowing when to expect the opening!!! jason

About a second and a half after you let go!

As long as your static line is attached, you're going to have a canopy, or you'll still be under the plane in a hangup.

Try flipping forward while still on the static line, that freaked my S/L jumpmaster out, although I think it freaked me out a lot worse.

Last year one guy did that at a S/L jumpmaster course, got stuck in the lines, and landed with two balls of shit above him and broke a lot of bones, allmost died...B| Don't recommend that...

I know its been beat to death in many a threads but "Big UP" to all you going through static coarse.......man it just seems less hazardous going through AFF...Just seems like to more shit can go wrong staticaly than deployment in freefall....I mean yeah you can have your "normal mals in both but I havnet ever worried about flipping through line or not being presented to the relative air...ect....please dont flame me ..I know theres dangers with both but it just seems you here more bad juju form students going static rather than AFF about getting tangled in your canopy or bridle !!!!!

I am going to publicly disagree with you.
I believe that static-line is safer because the canopy inflates so quickly that it is usually at line stretch before the student can flip badly enough to interferr with inflation.
Dozens of things can go wrong with freefall deployments and unless you have god's gift to freefall instructors EXPECTING the student to flip, preventing instability is difficult.

haha yeah i'm working with him doing the same thing, getting my SL instructor rating. I had to do 4 simulated static lines. The guy we were going to help last night was my first simulated student. While in the plane he unhooked himself from the plane while i was checking teh spot and waive it infront of me. Then i told him to get all the way out and hang and he jumped out ont he strut and hung by his feet. My 2nd student i told to get all the way out and hang and he did a bombout. My 3rd one got out, froze, tried getting back into the plane and then tried to grab me and take me with, but was very realistic with it. My 4th was also very helpful and let go with one hand and went into a sit. It's been great fun, whenever you have teh chance to pretend you're a student do it!!!
